Yeah, they could call it the METRO Purple Line and many of us could use it on GameDay.
Sky bridge over Scott/Metro, sky bridge over Cullen for game day traffic, sky bridge over Spur 5/RR tracks for expansion of campus.
Find the old BY and GVL shows that were on TV in 70s and use the highlights on game days and the UH website to honor our great players and teams of the past. Where are our highlights from the 70s? Only very few are actually available. Build some ac restrooms in the parking lots instead of those nasty port a potties. Quit cooking us all at 11am in early September!
I can remember as a kid watching those BY shows early Sunday morning. Yeoman was really pumped after a big win. What has happened to Channel 8?
There are very few sports highlights available in general from before about 1980. The overwhelming bulk of games werenât broadcast and werenât ever published in full, and a lot of what did get recorded has been permanently lost. Itâs why we donât even have footage of stuff like Wiltâs 100-point game.
By august 2027, we will have 10k beds on campus making us a primarily residential school by the criteria. Plus the other 3 k off campus. Itâs once that new dorm in august 2027 is up and running.
Per AI
Did UH refurbish/remodel the towers? They sure neededit.
They needed it in the 90s
They did at some point around when I was in school ~2012 ish but they are marked for demo and rebuild soon
They said on the UH site , they will tear the towers down after the latest dorm for 1100 is up and running then rebuild dorms to replace the towers. After the tear down of towers , we will have about 9k with the new dorm in 2027 then after the towers are replaced, it will go to 10k. 9k would still put us as a residential campus bc the formula is y need 25% of students living on campus from the total of just full time undergraduate students. We have about 29 k to 32 k full time undergraduates (approx) We have close to 49k total students but part timers and grad students donât count towards the equation on the criteria of being a residential campus. So we should be good as a residential campus by august 2027 when that new dorm is up and running. Then again once the towers are replaced, weâre at 10k. They sounded like they would start right away with tearing the towers down and replacing them in 2027 etc
I hope they rebuild the towers with a tower or towers instead of the same looking dorm that all of the recent ones have been.
The towers have been coming down next year for like 15 years now.
Well probably soon after 2027 . Demo after the new dorm is up then I think it will happen
Wondering why they canât just renovate them but anyway
Here I am dreaming big again: 1980s-style apartment living (inner loop) is rapidly becoming obsolete and Cambridge Oaks (CO) is standard example number ONE. This is only my campus imagined.
Imagine replacing those massive surface parking lots with modern parking garages. Freeing up that footprint opens the door for so much moreâthink entertainment (food, bar, darts), quick-service eateries, and necessities (drug store, late postal service, cleaners⊠etc.).
While Iâm confident someones broader âE-Districtâ vision will happen eventually, modernizing Cambridge Oaks and moving away from its outdated 80s design is the perfect place to start!
Todayâs student expect more amenities than what the towers can offer. Plus the cost to renovate would be significant disproportionate to the benefit.
They have for much of them.
Oh, sorry for the omission.
Mixed-use ofc!
Student Residential!
All retail is downstairs below or near.
They have been trying to redesign and renovate the towers in the the architecture college studios since I was an undergrad 25 years ago, I am confident if there was a design that would work and was cost effective it would have been found by now.
Well regardless, weâre gonna have a great campus after 2027 .
I thought we already had a great campus.
