OT: More Proof UH Is Transforming to Traditional Campus

I like it, that area should be a sales point and uniquely U of H.

So what’s the deal with this pattern in the fountain? I remember seeing it on the library, but I don’t think I ever had any context for it. Seems like it has some significance.

The Patio looks cool, great idea. Pavilion too.

Very cool update. It has a Discovery Green vibe to it.

I am sure there are some talented music school individuals or bands that would play in the pavillion to give campus a cool vibe and make the fountain a major hang out on campus.

That area around the pool and fountain is going to be fantastic.

Maybe throw in a little Spirit of Houston band music on RED Fridays to get the students pumped.

  1. If UH wants a true entertainment district, they should study other urban schools to see what works and what doesn’t.
  2. Provide some sort of incentive for restaurants and businesses to open a location in the district.
  3. How about partnering with a few hotels and the City of Houston to build some hotels next to the district so fans coming from out of town can stay near the stadium? I know this sounds kind of crazy, but it would be cool, for example, to have a Marriott within walking distance of the stadium. I was thinking about this when I was in San Antonio for the national championship basketball game.

There is a Hilton on campus and many hotels that are five minutes away in downtown.

If ALL kids were required to spend 1 year working in SE Asia, say during their Junior or Senior year, instead of attending school in the US of A, (if anyone drops out of school, immediate enrollment in overseas year of work), peoples outlook would be way, way different and they just ā€œmightā€ feeling so sorry for themselves.

I didn’t realize there was a Hilton on campus. Downtown, while not too far, isn’t necessarily within walking distance to the stadium, is it? I seriously doubt many people would enjoy or feel safe walking from downtown to campus at night.

I’m a scratching my head.

I’ve done it, it’s just fine. It’s a little cooler at night. More humidity but no sun. It’s around an hour walk. People should get out and judge for themselves. It’s not scary.

Driving, it’s about five minutes. But with a hotel already on campus and those options downtown, I’m not sure that another hotel would be needed in the entertainment district.

I have stayed at the Hilton on Campus, its great, ran by students, decorated in UH, but I have also stayed at the Hyatt Place, Marriott Marquis, Magnolia, and Hilton Americas for games, they are all a quick walk to a Purple line light rail stop. Hotels I think we have covered.

Train runs from downtown to UH. Very easy access.

I’m still curious as to who decided the Purple line goes to UH and not the red line… Someone at metro was not a Coog.

Red line already existed when they added the purple.

Agree on 1 and 2. Having an entertainment district on campus is indeed a game changer. Being next to I-45 will help promote UH. This is a no brainer. The entire area next to I-45 needs major revitalization. It will help the entire area.
