From Tony Levine’s Chik-Fil-A…

Now he can lose to UTSA without the shame

This is really going to make recruiting in Houston tough.

He’s really a good dude. Some of y’all geez. It was only one game. Look him up, his offenses have been successful everywhere.

Well, not everywhere.

How do you not give Charles Sims the ball?

I don’t if Mike Nesbitt is a good guy, but I do know that nobody gets fired because of one bad game… especially when it’s their first game.

Every time I see this guy’s name it makes me want some Nilla Wafers.

Nesbitt was the text book definition of a skapegoat. Maybe he wouldn’t of worked out here, but it was a panic fire. He’s done well at the small college level. Bottom line we hired the wrong head coach, no knock on Levine he’s a great guy and super recruiter, just wasn’t ready to be a head coach at that level.

It was also a desperate time, trying to make the Big East thing work, trying to do a new stadium, feeling like we were always on the edge of falling behind the horns and ags forever. We had just lost another coach to an in state poacher after a what- could- have- been season. There was no sense of room for any slip ups. It’s a terrible way to run a railroad, but that’s what it looks like when an organization runs on emotion and pride.

There was one constant with the offense in those years, Travis Bush. Nesbitt got pushed out and Bush took over as Offensive Coordinator. Then, I cannot remember names, we hire a new Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach and we look much better with a freshman quarterback going 7 - 5 and a couple of games down to the last possession. After the season ends, the Offensive Coordinator leaves for a lateral position and the offensive line coach just quits. At the time he quit, he did not have a new job. Bush is back as Offensive Coordinator.

I don’t know if anything was going on. Not anywhere near close enough to know. But I always thought it looked like some back office politics was going on during those years.

Rhodes and Bush were buds

Bush did everything he could to undermine Nesbitt

But not Meacham?

He’ll be coaching against Travis Bush at UTRGV.

Damn right. I met both guys. In those short interactions I thought Nesbitt was a good natured country boy. I thought Bush (who I spoke to at a Sprouts store in Katy) was snaky as ____.

He gave me the impression that the only discourse of value to him was with someone that could give him something.
