This. 100000000000%.
Unless they’re connected enough to bring in NIL money, I agree.
The fact that Gundy is still there when he recruited a couple of my football teammates back in high school during the 2000s says a lot.
This is a harsh reaction for 1 bad season.
I get what everyone is saying about “one bad season,” but when I read this, I get the vibe that it’s not about that.
OSU was preseason to 25 and expected to challenge for a Big12 crown. And they didn’t win a conference game. And it wasn’t a lost season due to injury, like we Coogs experienced when Case got hurt.
There is something far bigger than “one bad season” going on at OSU.
What’s the “cause”? A crappy season?
It’s about one bad season and money. Without their sugar daddy Pickens, they’re hurting, and they want Gundy to finance part of it.
I think there’s also an issue with Gundy maybe not adjusting to the new NIL world, too. And I’m sure there are some higher-ups who don’t like him - reminds me of the Leach firing at Tech.
So, what you’re saying is it’s about money, and the “one bad season” is just the excuse OSU wants to use to force the change.
However, that quip in the tweet about firing him for cause… There has to be something else there for them to use that phrasing. Them’s fighting words. I dont recall OSU being on probation on his watch, but I could have missed it. To insinuate the possibility of firing for cause strikes at the man’s character. Do that, and OSU better have the goods. And that’s why I think there’s something far deeper than just the money.
If it’s only money, OSU is handling the entire thing like idiots.
That said, dude is far overpaid, but that’s the AD and BoR’s fault.
The better players make more than coaches in most cases in pro sports.
CFB becoming a pro sport…
A lot of Okie Lite folks says its not just because of this season but basically Gundy has been like Dana on steroids as of lately.
He’s apparently gotten very lazy over the years (He puts little effort into recruiting, tries to find assistants who wont leave, wont adjust to NIL) and it’s pissing a lot of folks off.
You go winless in conference, you’re gonna get some pressure. That’s especially true when you were expected to be good. How many coaches have come back from something like that?
My guess is there is something below the surface causing this.
That’s pretty normal, after all with young people history only begins on the day they were born. Humm I sort of remembering being young once.
Gundy w sec recruiting he can probably win a championship. Sometimes u gotta leave.
Nailed it. Also, even last season, when Okie State surprised a lot of people, there were Okie State alum, especially former players, who were pretty much stating out loud that they were done with Gundy. I was listening to the Big12 radio station when it was on Sirius XM and there was a former Okie State D Lineman who was ripping Gundy to shreds for his refusal to use the portal, NIL, etc. I wish I could remember the players name. It was someone who played in the NFL too.
If they try the “for cause” angle, they’re gonna get sued and probably lose unless there’s some skeletons out there.
Further, if they offered him a restructured contract, it’s kind of hard to also argue that they’re firing him “for cause” if he turns down the offer.
I think he just aggravates the management and some of them are tired of it. They may have gotten too far out over their skis here.
Honestly Oklahoma St. is probably destined for relegation.
OK St NIL krewe spent on his advice. Bowman & the RB, etc.
They are fuming now. That is P4 CFB in 24-25.
Ollie G = he gone.
Ollie knew OL stunk early. Avoided the pile. (see OSU NIL Krewe fuming)
Could be a rookie surprise.
I just realized that Gundy was B12 Coach of the year 2 out of the last 3 seasons (not including this year).
Cause? I think is 'cause someone doesn’t like him.
My “older” cousin is an OSU grad and he hates Gundy.
Gundy is old school and refuses to embrace NIL. He should go the way of Saban and retire if he doesn’t like it.
Would you “retire” and pass on $25MM?
