Yes, but if the NIL era was in place prior to Gundy’s tenure, would have those 8 10+ win seasons still have happened?
I have nothing but respect for Gundy. I like the guy. But this is a new era for CFB, and unless you change your coaching philosophy then you ain’t gonna win in this era.
I can’t blame Oklahoma State for going this direction if they aren’t confident in Gundy to adapt
Unless he’s actively undermining NIL fundraising efforts, they’d be better off going to work to raise that money to put at his disposal. It seems like they want the revenue sharing to come out of his contract, which might be something you could work into a new deal, but he has an existing contract that the school agreed to - tearing that up is gonna be expensive.
The administration has really knocked this one out of the park.
This might be one of the all-time turnarounds.
Sources tell me there’s momentum toward Mike Gundy returning to #OKState, but contract details are still being worked out. Nothing official yet, but explains why nothing was decided right at 5 p.m.
If they want Mike gone it is going to cost $25 million which their athletic department doesn’t have. Remember they are paying former basketball Coach (Boynton) nearly $ 8 million and they were barely able to raise that!
Gundy wants NIL funding but they need the reduced contract to help cover it.
He’s a man. And he’s …almost 60. How many times in any type of contract has someone stayed and taken a pay cut ? lol I’m having a hard time actually seeing this play out smoothly.
Gundy should tell them to pound sand. He took a pay cut when one of his delicate players got offended by his shirt (should’ve told them to pound sand then).
Any pay cut would be able to go to revenue sharing, not NIL. NIL does not come from the school.
I expect the revenue sharing will have a big impact on the different athletic departments starting in 6 months and NIL will become less talked about. WIll also probably drop in amount given by most as the school will need more donations to offset the revenue sharing.
All changes in 6 months when they set the revenue sharing rules, so this NIL talk is mostly irrelevant until we see the revenue impact.
Just like. us, I imagine most of his salary is being financed by alum donations thru the school. So him taking a pay cut would allow those alum to put those same dollars towards NIL.
