OT: Remembering “delmarred”

If someone already posted this, I apologize, but I had not heard that Raymond Johnson, aka “delmarred,” had passed in January until now.

He was a former insider in the “Jesus Movement,” a longtime UH fan and season ticket holder, and at one time, a moderator on Coogfans.com.

I hadn’t seen any posts from him in a long time, and I just saw on social media that he had suffered from Alzheimer’s in his last years and passed away peacefully.

Rest in Peace.

Thanks for sharing that.

Delmar was a fixture around here and the previous iterations. He’ll be missed.

Yes Ray was a great friend and Coog. He and his wife sat next to us at Fertitta.
Ray’s dementia got worse this year and he went on to be with the Lord.
Ray and I went to UH during the greatest era of Cougar sports, so yeah we had many conversations and shared memories!
Miss him but know he’s doing a lot better now.
Prayers continue for his wonderful family.

Knew Ray from the CoogFans tailgates. He was gracious during those events and an ardent UH fan.

The guy was a Coog Super Trooper. It could be a freakin hurricane and he would be in the stands with his Bill Yeoman jacket by himself.

Whenever I would skip games I always felt guilty because I knew he would be there through thick and thin.

I can’t remember him ever not being at a home game in either football or basketball. He was a great Coog and will be mssed.

Funniest Delmar story was a tailgate we put on. Ray was tasked with getting the chicken to grill. He picked up 4 large boxes of thighs. I asked him if they were fresh. He said yes. Each thigh was frozen like a rock.

We set up the tables, and were thawing out the chicken in the sun. We were still thawing out chicken several hours into the tailgate.

That was the same tailgate where DoubleCoog brought a 40 + pound black drum to grill. Couldn’t get the smell out of the tailgate area for days.

Then there was the time an unnamed party grilled hot dogs on a stick. They put the sticks in the dogs prior to grilling, and of course the ends burnt off. People hurt their teeth biting into the “wood fortified” dogs.

Prayers to his family, friends and to everyone he has “touched”

May his memory be a blessing.

Rest in Peace, brother Coog,

Ray was a great Coog and a brother in Christ. He was also an interesting guy. Thankful that I will see him again someday.

Sad news. Hadn’t seen him in several years, so I thought he must have some issues because he wouldn’t have missed any games otherwise.

he was a great guy, i thought he was just some old in the way guy at tailgates on first impression but quickly found out he was a workhorse and one of the building blocks for coogfans tailgates. coogfans was lucky to have him.
