The Ft. Worth Star Telegram is reporting that Dennis Franchione passed away from cancer. Franchione is well known in these parts, having been head coach at TCU, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Texas State. When Franchione left TCU for Alabama, Franchione’s DC, Gary Patterson replaced him as head coach. I think Patterson built on the progress Francione had started at TCU.
Franchione was head coach at Texas State, when he came to Robertson Stadium and beat UH and head coach Tony Levine 30-13, in Levine’s debut as head coach. It was also Texas State’s first game as a FBS program.
RIP Dennis Franchione.
