OT: RIP Dwight "Bo" Lamar

Dwight “Bo” Lamar played basketball for University of Southwestern Louisiana
(USL), now University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and in 1971-1972, and was one of the best scoring machines I have saw play against UH. In 1971, Lamar’s junior year, he led the NCAA in scoring with 36.3 pts/gm. That year, UH went to Lafayette, LA and lost 97-88. USL made the NCAA Tournament final four and finished third. The following year, UH got revenge in Hofheinz Pavillion, and won a thriller 82-80.

Dwight “Bo” Lamar passed away February 16, 2026. RIP Dwight “Bo” Lamar.

I remember him from when I was very young. He was some player, and though he didn’t have a long professional career he did score 50 points in a game for San Diego of the ABA.

He played one season as a bit player for the Lakers team that lost to the eventual champion Portland in the 76-77 NBA playoffs.

Thanks for the post. Sorry to hear that Bo Lamar has passed. You are spot on about him being a scoring machine.

I remember the 82-80 game well. I was hoarse for a week after that…

I remember that game, too. He was a great college player!
