that’s an apples to oranges comparison.
Universities are not ‘for sale’ Franchises.
Public Universities are supposed to be non-profit institutions.
NFL franchises are FOR Profit

If they get a new stadium and require a new PSL, I’m out. If it transfers, I’ll consider renewing.
I’d say cities need to get out of the nfl business bc your right , it’s every 25 yrs it seems. College stadiums last decades and people attend. Solution is cities should buy the franchise like green bay did . Green Bay is in an old stadium up north and they make it work bc the people and city own it. People say what about the heat down south , we’ll UH plays outside and so does a$m , Texas , Lsu etc. Just have night games in the early season then day games later.
Harris county already has high hotel and car rental rates and they owe on it still so where do they get the money? Make the Texans pay half . Again Washington did it right with their city / team deal. Washington ponied up.
The NFL will never allow an ownership structure like Green Bay’s again for exactly this reason. If you want that, you’ll have to start your own league for it.
The villian in all this is whomever the genius was that didn’t require the Texans to maintain their stadium while the Astros and Rockets have to maintain their buildings.
When did UT sell their land? Last I heard they still owned it and the surrounding land owners are still marketing their land as adjacent to the future UT campus.
It’s still for sale found a listing.
Not sure how up to date the listing is. JLL does UTs real estate deals, it’s not listed on their website
How do we confirm UT sold it?
According to HCAD they still own it or at least a large portion of it.
100 acres is under account 0420220000075 Also it’s valued at roughly 35% of what they paid.
That is the Buffalo Lakes tract which they had put together and had been trying to sell for 15 years before UT bought it.
So…it’s probable, if the state gets involved, since this will be publicly funded building- that they force the school system to sell to the country at an extreme discount.
Remember, Cal’s Brother runs the McNair real estate development business so they could be looking for a masterplan area.
The fact they haven’t developed the Astrodomain area, after 25 years, is beyond me!
Why leave your stadium on a lifeless island when many other teams are integrating their stadium in vibrant urban districts
Does Cal McNair do any interviews without his wife by his side? It has become noticeable.
OT- saw a DELL3 White Tahoe this morning in NW Houston pulling out of a gas station. Kinda wonder if that was him.
I would say the commitment is to developing downtown, not another entertainment district.
Pittsburgh’s entertainment district with the football stadium and baseball stadium is pretty nice.
Why would the HCSA require the Texans to maintain it when the HLSR uses the same venue for more days out of the year?
I’d be for it downtown but others say a parking nightmare would happen but I’d say we should try it and just work the bb, baseball and football schedules as to not conflict .
It would be cool to have it down there because the city already has plans to transform the convention center.
plus, the other 3 stadiums/arenas are already located in that area!
Good point about the other plans for downtown
I’d vote yes if they put it downtown bc of the impact
I just went down this rabbit hole, did yall see they are going to make the stretch of 59 between Eado and Daiken and GRB underground? That will be nice in 2040.
Yeah, that’s why Kim Son downtown is going to have to close soon.
I have my doubts about how they’ll handle flooding, but it’s a cool idea that’s guaranteed to ruin traffic for a long time.
