From all the reading it looks like the Rodeo really wants a new Arena, the current Arena was built in 1974, and the Texan’s wants a blank check to do whatever upgrades they want to the stadium, and everyone wants to get rid of the Astrodome, while simultaneously being opposed to getting rid of the Astrodome.

Every 25 yrs and new stadium request. It opened in 2002 so it’s 23 yrs old
Green Bay owns the team which was a brilliant move to avoid this mess. They play outdoors in the cold and fans can buy stock in the team I believe ?
This is the wrong timing bc the city budget is broke and I don’t see how we can put more debt on rental cars and hotels bc they can’t do it with property taxes. City is broke and high inflation so if they vote today I don’t see the public passing this.

I declined signing a petition when students were going around trying to get signatures for a new stadium (what later became TDECU).
Not sure how much that petition moved the needle, but im glad it went thru hehe

This is the only way.
Probably the right call. Absent a deus ex machina event where a billionaire booster drops from the sky and renders this all moot anyway, they’re pretty firmly stuck in place in the college sports pecking order. It would be a waste of money to climb aboard the treadmill of constant facility renovation and pour a ton of money into athletics when they’re not going to keep up with the SEC and XII schools in the state anyway.
I also think it’s possible that within the near future we will find that we were naïve to do so.
tell them they can have a great deal on the Astrodome
or maybe use some one of the many massive high school stadiums our tax dollars have been building.
Let move to the Philippines and call themselves the Manila Folders.

What’s wrong with NRG? We’ve hosted Super Bowls, Final Fours, NCAA Football Championships, and now World Cups. All in the past 10 years. That’s crazy.

Apparently, the county forgot to perform routine maintenance on the thing and the changes/upgrades/maintenance the Texans want to perform could outweigh the cost of rebuilding.
The Texans aren’t at fault here. The HCSA is the reason we’re in this predicament, but the Texans made it clear they would like to re-up the lease and make upgrades. I think there are limitations to that based on how the stadium was built.
The problem with this deal is our football team will always be joined at the hip with the HCSA and HLSR unless Cal wants to build something on his own, which he doesn’t have the money for.
Going to the county for a prop vote for special funding to perform a home ge makeover is t going to go over well with tax payers.

I think a new stadium would be awesome. They would do it right and hopefully it won’t have the bland atmosphere of NRG. Tear down the Astrodome and build it on that site. Or maybe build it in EADO? That would be cool.
Don’t forget the Astrodome will be used for a Casino…HaHaHa
The city and county need tons more cops. Spend the money there. Let the semi-pro team go down the road to Pascagoula. Tilman can bring an NHL franchise in and we’re off to the races.
That’s a figure of speech. We’re not actually going to the races. The county can’t afford it.
