OT: UCLA Football Recruiting Staff: Huh?

Is there something I’m supposed to be noticing about this, besides the fact all of the names sound like they were made up by a team of Japanese game designers, Sleve McDichael-style?

I don’t get it

I think the point is….

They have 12 GUYS on the Recruiting Staff.

12

That aside from all the other coaches and staff for the football program.

It’s their prerogative to do that, but Houston has 3 guys doing the same thing…

…and doing it better.

@Dude you beat me to it. I posted the ridiculous number that UCLA has recruiting.

The UCLA athletic department is not rich. In 2025, they ran a $21.6M deficit. That is horrible, until you find out the previous year the deficit was $51.8M. For two years in a row, the university has provided $30M in direct institutional support, and paid the remaining debt. Sound familiar UH fans?

UCLA is thanking its lucky stars that they are in the B1G.

They are mimicking the NFL. In the NFL you have guys covering college, covering the NFL for free agents, covering minor leagues (UFL, Canadian).

In college, you have high school, D1 (everyone is a portal prospect), D2, D3, NAIA that must be covered

I thought that was the norm. Hell, I would think SEC teams such as Alabama and LSU employ no less than 20 individuals in the recruitment staff.

12 is ridiculous…

Unless its totally changed.

Only the head coach and 10 other staff members can recruit off campus.
UCLA must have position coaches who are heavy recruiters, and OC/ DC who go sometimes.
Add a GM & a few others that list.

Huge % of UCLA staff above must be office bound.

Or
They are sending above staff on the road.
Most coaches stay on campus ?
Sounds like a bad idea.

I would expect the recruiting staff would increase since the portal adds a whole new recruiting dynamic. And the portal is so important and so many players are going in, I don’t know how the coaches can evaluate all of those players and high school with the same size staff as before

If they all promise to attend games UCLA attendance will triple!

Another explanation is due to the size of the California landscape and the horrible traffic either during the week or in weekends.
I would expect that each Director is in charge of a “region”
USC, ucla and Stanford have no excuses to recruit the Nation’s best athletes. USC’s used to because like the other blue bloods they were paying. Thank god for NIL.
Thank you for posting.

2 Managers, 6 “Directors”, and 4 Analysts.

Kinda “Job Title” heavy if ya ask me.

It’s like having 2 Lieutenants, 6 Sergeants, and 4 Privates.

I’ve noticed a “trend” in college football where people are awarded titles in order to beef up their resume, so when they get their next gig, they can use that title to move up the ladder, when in fact, they were just a regular Joe, in reality.

Kinda like the one janitor at a church whose job title is “Chief Custodian and Security Manager”.

He’s “Chief Custodian” because he’s the ONLY Custodian, and he’s the Security Manager because they have NO Security.

Makes him feel better about cleaning toilets…

Thinking about it more and with my experience with public agencies this might be related to state job description.

No, just reflects the change in the prospect/transfer landscape

Easy to understand why they have money problems when they prove to be as wasteful as this.

Believe you me, public agencies love to waste money.

The colleges might as well cover the CFL and UFL as well these days.

Careful, when I brought this up, someone said I was being “political”.

My post got flagged.

I read the forum rules and I did not violate them.
