Pac-2 going after Boise, Fresno State, Colorado State and San Diego State

The SEC and Big Ten already make a ton of money, so adding UConn wouldn’t make any sense for them

Big 12 needs all the extra revenue they can get, and that was the entire point of vetting UConn to split the basketball deal and generate even more revenue.

No other conference can split their sports up like that

Definitely should go for UNLV. After that, who knows? I would probably go New Mexico next, but there aren’t a lot of great options out there.

Except that unlike UConn…UCLA also had MANY PAC titles in football.

There’s no comparing UConn’s football brand to UCLA’s.

Not even close.

Bad argument.

UCLA benefitted the B1G in football (paramount), and gave them a basketball blue blood (secondary, but important).

That made UCLA a NO BRAINER!!!

To to the UH and UCLA comparison, UH had won conference championships in the SWC, CUSA and AAC and many high profile bowl wins.

If they were OK adding a UCLA that averaged 43k in the year they received their invitation than the definitely have UH on their radar due to market size, school size and access into the state of Texas

UCLA is one of the most prestigious universities in the country.

prestige alone doesn’t drive conference realignment if it did, Stanford would have gotten into the B1G over UCLA

I’m not sure what the entire reasoning was for adding both UCLA and USC. I think it’s obvious that having access to the LA market needs no explanation, but why they took both I’m not entirely sure.

Perhaps they didn’t want any other conference to access that market, and so they took in both for that very reason alone.

In football, UCLA has a better all-Time winning percentage, more bowl victories, more conference titles and far more major conference titles than UH.

Again, not close.

Bad comparison.

Not a bad idea

…and so a new era begins in the Conference of Champions

“Strengthens its legacy” is a bit of a stretch

No way in hell this conference will gain autonomy and become a power conference;
I see this move as completely unnecessary by the parties involved

Pac 10 conference Board of Directors voted unanimously

So, like two people

I don’t either but for those MWC teams, they probably see this as their only chance to try to become a power conference.

I think the “PAC-12” is stronger than the “MWC” brand mainly because it’s in the general zeitgeist of football fans across country, but agreed, I don’t think the conference will qualify as a Power Conference unless they manage to pull something insane.

if i was Pac i would try to entice CalFord with Rice,SMu,Tulane, Air Force and then grab UNLV and Utah State to get to 14.

Idaho decided it couldnt hack it at that top level, and Montana is OG BIg SKy… not sure what other OG you mean…

History time.

The first WAC split happened because several schools didnt like the riff-raff of the conference. (The WAC absorbed several of the Big West schools and had almost 20 teams in the conference which is another story for another time) So the presidents and ADs had a secret meetup at a Denver airport and created the Mountain West.

Once Utah, TCU and others left, they had to backfill with the WAC riff-raff.

This is now another opportunity to hopefully shed the WAC riff-raff for good.

Theres a LOT of bad blood out west between SDSU, Fresno, Boise, CSU vs San Jose State, Hawaii, Utah State, etc.

You think our lore is deep, but the other schools go just as deep and in some cases deeper than ours.

This is no different than the MWC no matter what they call it.
