Pallilo gone from 97.5

I heard one host, may have been during our 2015 or 2016 football season, asked why they don’t talk about UH football. He actually said the producers complained that too many fans of other schools would call in upset so they did it as little as possible. I was listening to 790 back then but I can’t remember who it was.

Thats the excuse he gave. But the boss said not to is the real reason.

Well you have a different standards than I do when it comes to professionals actually know their profession. You know what happens when knowledgeable callers have to listen to uniformed takes from the host? They tune out the station.
You know what happens when the host start telling stories about their personal lives or staying off topic for minutes at a time? More of the audience leaves.
When the host decides pigeon hole the topics with their selectivity? More of the audience leaves.
You wouldn’t run off professional fans (and I have always been one of them) if the host could actually engage in intelligent conversation about the local colleges and the entire sports spectrum to an extent.

There are a few good ones out there, none that I consider really good. The good ones tend to be a one lane divers for their particular sports.

Pallilo was definitely knowledgeable, but came off way too smug for my taste. Back when I used to listen to sports radio, I went for entertainment, not to be lectured to.

Recommend you buy your own radio station.

The new show from 10-12 noon replacing Pallilo on 97.5 is as bad as I feared. Vanessa somebody and some really annoying bro-guy named Paul talking national sports like they want to be on ESPN TV. It’s like every other radio show basically.

For that reason, I’m out.

Sure if I had the resources there’s no doubt I could manage a talk radio show but that’s not what I do.
I will stick with teaching and coaching before I am able to retire.

Where did Palillo end up? I’m assuming up north

Gentlemen, I’ve been a huge fan of local sports talk since the days of John Breen and Jerry Trupiano, Anita Martini and Mike Edwards, John O’Reilly and the current Anglican priest Ed Fowler, and most recently Sean Pendergast and John Harris on 1560. I’ve washed cars on Saturdays listening to Rich fecking Lord and Charlie Pallilo on the day before Oiler games. Trustme, I hate the current environment as much as you do. Local sports talk went down the drain when the Oilers left and we got all these Syracuse media grads emulating Jim Rome and auditioning for national shout shows. I could not care less about the Texans, the Rockets bore me, and I don’t pay attention to the Astros before Labor Day. I listen to ESPNU on SXM or college specific podcasts. That’s better than listening to the crap that local radio puts out every day.

So you came on to post that you could care less about the local Houston teams. And ohh yea you listen to the Natl radio shows over the local ones. Shocking!

With regard to 610, Landry and Lopez went to UT and Aggy respectively. That’s all you really need to know. They have to cater to their listeners. They’re hard to listen to at times but have to be careful what they say on the Texans flagship station. I have a source that told me this recently. There are things they would like to say but can’t.

I couldn’t care less about any team in the country outside our sphere of influence. Thus, I can’t listen to national radio.

And I breath Astros from the first pitch of spring. But I get that news online.

That leaves me listening to no one. I do listen to old Lone Ranger broadcasts on Sirius, though.

Jesse, I meant no offense and I certainly understand that despite my MBA from UH I am a visitor here. I took the original post as criticism about Pallio’s lack of commentary on UH. I’ve lived here for decades and listened to the local shows the whole time. There is an enormous gap between the programs that I mentioned versus the current product.

That being said, I could not care less about the national or local professional teams. I follow college sports, obviously focused on A&M and the SEC but have great interest in UH and other lesser regional teams. Go Coogs -

All good Bellaire. My point was mainly of course you’re not going to listen to Local Sports radio bc you have no interest in the Local teams. Where me, i have tremendous interest in Local teams n am a born n raised Houstonian. And guess what I never listen to Local Sports talk radio anymore. So we both agree on that part for sure. #GoCoogs

Sir, there is a nuance there. Let me phrase it this way - if there happened to be an event at Griff’s after an Astros playoff win in which people got onto a party bus to go piss on Bud Adams’ grave at Forest Park Westheimer, would you help pay for the bus or just get on? Because I’d be the goddamned driver.

Wheww :exploding_head:. No, sorry, i dont thk anyway like that or talk like that. Let’s leave it on the prev post where we agreed.
