I believe this is what you call respect. The blueblood Penn State, measuring its win-loss record versus AAC teams.
That Ticket City bowl victory was a decent consolation victory after that So Miss debacle.
Apparently the only reason we got that was due to Larry Fedora deciding to play Nevada in The Hawaii Bowl. His rationale was that most of the Southern Miss players will never get an opportunity to go to Hawaii again. So why not give them a free (for them) once-in-a-lifetime vacation. He had already accepted the job at North Carolina so he didn’t have to worry about fan backlash.
A decade later and Southern Miss fans are still seething at that decision. Some even believe the 2011 CUSA Championship is why they weren’t included in the AAC.
I believe being a small town school is why Southern Miss was not included. They don’t fit the profile.
Not going to lie expected to see slightly better results from Temple and Cincy.
Yes, that’s the real reason. They try to argue ECU’s inclusion but ECU draws 50k when they’re good.
That and they dont spend on athletics. Their athletic budget is near the bottom of the FBS ranks, behind schools like Ball St. and Bowling Green.
