Again…I dunno.
Where else are you going to go to school in the State of Texas for…let’s say…HOSPITALITY or Creative Writing that would compare?
We seem to carry the torch in certain fields for the entire state!

so…if you ask the RANDOM non UH affiliated person in the street, in Amarillo or El Paso, what the largest state themed party on the University of Houston’s campus is, how many will respond FRONTIER FIESTA…duh?
Then ask them, which Texas school represents the State of Texas in the Texas State Fair vs Oklahoma, how many will respond with UT?
Ask anyone in either this state…or anywhere in the country…which college basketball team represents the BEST that the STATE OF TEXAS has to offer.
How many do you think would respond today with any answer other than Houston?
All right then.
I mean, Baylor did win a natty. And Tech got to a final more recently than we did. I wouldn’t be so confident that the answer would be as resounding as you think.
I would be VERY CONFIDENT that at least a super-majority would say Houston.
That’s why I said, ask anyone TODAY which school represents the best that the STATE OF TEXAS has to offer in college basketball, and see what the answer would be.
I’m pretty sure that nearly everyone would answer Houston.
Hell, UTEP has a natty. I’m guessing that very few, if any, would answer that question with a response of “UTEP” today.
Probably only a minority (and likely only a small minority at that) would answer Tech or Baylor. Tech and Baylor during my lifetime were both basically “one hit wonders” in basketball.
UH…by contrast…has been ranked for 100 straight weeks and has several straight second weekend appearances in the tourney. Given that, I think most will answer “Houston.”
Done.
In the last 40 years, we’ve been to one final four, where Baylor ran through us like turds through a tin horn on their way to one of the most dominant titles in recent memory. If they’re a one-hit wonder, what are we?
Again, which team has been ranked 100 straight weeks and counting and has multiple straight second weekend tourney appearances?
Hint: NOT Baylor.
That ONE natty season they had was indeed amazing. But they have NOT sustained that level of success.
As I said, ONE HIT WONDER. I doubt that many would say otherwise.
I’m pretty confident that most people will answer that question with “Houston,”…NOT Baylor or Tech.
If you think otherwise…then I’m guessing you’d be in the minority.
Man…do you have a learning disability?
You are literally the only person, on planet earth, that thinks the University of Houston is synonymous with the State of Texas.
At best…the average non affiliated UH and non Houstonian Texan thinks of probably a dozen schools as representing the ENTIRE state of Texan FIRST before naming the University of Houston.
The Frontiersmen can surgically affix a Texas flag to their arms and that won’t change unless we improve our in-state reputation.
They had the ‘Texas State’, name for our taking but we CHOSE to remain the University of Houston, the City we are located in.
…do you think that’s at all a relevant credential for a team whose second-most recent F4 appearance is closer to World War II than it is to today?
No one said we are synonymous.
You must have a learning disability in reading if you think I said that, because I never said that anywhere.
Again…STOP…INTERNTIONALLY MISREPRESENTING what anyone said or meant. It’s disingenuous at best.
All I said is that it was INCORRECT for you to question what the State of Texas has to do with the University of Houston (which it WAS, for obvious reasons that have been stated ad nauseum), and then I provided plenty of examples of how we do indeed endeavor to make a connection at a state level, not merely locally, to refute your other strange red herring to the contrary.
Find out when Baylor’s other two Final Four appearance before their natty year were.
Hint: 1948 and 1950.
EVEN MORE DISTANT than the gap between our 2021 and prior appearances.
Enough said.
CASE CLOSED!!!
NO CRAP…WE ARE LOCATED IN THE STATE OF TEXAS AND RECEIVE STATE FUNDING AND MIX IN TEXAS THEMES.
We ALL ACKNOWLEDGE that but we are NOT the school that represents Texas. We barely land any students outside of our region…let’s work on that
Their other final four appearance before their what was that, again?
Answer: their ONE HIT WONDER year that won’t sway many people when asked that question, except maybe you.
Again…you’d definitely be in the minority there if you’d answer the question that way.
UTEP also has a natty.
So?
Guess what?
ONE HIT WONDER!!!
Houston has become the State of Texas’ consistent shining star and dominant power in men’s basketball, and remains so today.
Few (other than you) would dispute that.
The difference is, obviously, that Baylor’s title (and Tech’s run to the final) was within the past decade, whereas UTEP’s title was during the Civil Rights era. You’re being intentionally obtuse. If you think the median fan values a 100-week poll streak over a recent title, you’re wrong, and there’s not much else to it.
If you think that most college basketball fans nationally would answer that question with “Baylor,” which hasn’t even made a Sweet Sixteen since their one hit wonder year, instead of “Houston” which has made the Sweet Sixteen or better every year since 2021, and is also currently much better, then YOU are wrong, and there’s not much else to it.
As I said, find ANYONE ELSE on this board would that would agree with you on that.
I doubt you’ll find anybody, and that should tell you all you need to know.
YOU are being deliberately “OBTUSE” if you think otherwise.
PROOF of why AI models are BAD.
UT has only been to one Final Four since the 1940s…and even it was over 20 years ago. They’ve NEVER made a tourney final, and only one Sweet Sixteen since 2008.
Sorry…but ChapGPT won’t help you.
We should post a poll at the top of this string asking that same question.
How many do you think would pick either Baylor or UT?
All right then.
Again…ask anyone which basketball program TODAY is the best in the State of Texas.
I doubt many fans would pick one hit wonder Baylor or only one Final Four since the 1940s UT.
Most nationally would pick Houston, which has made four straight Sweet Sixteens or better (including a Final Four) since 2021 and been ranked for over 100 straight weeks and counting.
That was your very worst argument among the hundreds offerred in this thread.
Your question here is literally asking them about “in the state of Texas”. And your conclusion (when they respond with UH) is that response supports your standpoint?
If the question asked about “in the Houston area”… would that mean your bickering buddy was right when they answered UH? No.
This might be a sign to recognize the opportunity here to not try that hard.
Serious question…did you grow up in the Houston area? In Texas? I ask because if not, that miight be a factor here
When I was at UH, I knew a girl who was from Wichita Falls. I knew a girl from Odessa too. I also know next to nothing about North Texas or Texas State other than their location.
