POLL: Favorite UH Logo

Lets keep it local. After all, we need to stay narrow minded so we can never achieve national recognition. Stay home and stay small.

Actually, why stop at Texas? We should be trying to grow our brand globally, so we should put the UH logo over the outline of the earth next time.

Absolutely!

People keep shooting me down for having that vision
im told to stay in my lane when it comes to the University of Houston.

That we are destined to remain a commuter school that ONLY caters to working class students and first generation students and those still living with mommy and daddy and that we will NEVER be a Traditional Destination University.

F THAT!

LOL Beat me to that.

Nothing to add except I wouldn’t take what’s on the coaches shirt as an endorsement of anything. Im fairly certain that they wear whatever Lauren Sampson puts out for them to wear.

We should include the Gulf of America outline next time.

You mean “The Gulf of Houston”.

or try to get it changed to the Gulf of the Coogs!

All I have to say is this.

PSJ was TEXAS’ Tallest Fraternity.

NOT merely Houston’s.

‘Nuff said.

And in any event, you can go on youtube and look up all of the UH football team stadium entrance videos there:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Houston+Cougars+football+stadium+entrance

I always see UH, TEXAS (emphasis added), and even USA flags.

I don’t generally see a City of Houston flag leading the way, except on maybe one.

That should tell you all you need to know.

Hell, even when wearing the blue unis
WE STILL had a Texas flag leading the way, together with a US flag and City of Houston flag.

Obviously, it ain’t JUST about the City, even when we are wearing the “Houston Blues.”

yes, we get it LAW
the University of Houston is the #1 Flagship in the State of Texas and it isn’t even close.

The state, from day ONE, provided more resources to the University of Houston than any other school in the state and high school seniors all over the state (from El Paso to Beaumont and from Amarillo to Corpus Christ) have the University of Houston as their #1 In-State Destination when filling our Texas School applications. The other options are after thought safety schools!

Nationally, when other Americans think of a Higher Education Public School IN the state of Texas, the University of Houston is the FIRST school that comes to mind.

In fact, both the SEC and B1G 10 are currently fighting over adding the University of Houston because it is a GIVEN that if you add the University of Houston, you capture ALL of the Texas markets
without a shadow of a doubt. After all, the Cougars ARE Texas Tallest Fraternity and the Fronteirsmen run onto the field with Texas flags!

In fact, ESPN has missed the mark
instead of sponsoring the Longhorn Network
they should have created the Cougar Network because that is no doubt
the biggest, most popular brand IN the state of Texas.

The brand is so BIG that only a state, the size of Texas, can accommodate the monster state brand of the University of Houston. That’s how big the brand is and how synonymous it is with the State of Texas, itself!

When others hear the word ‘Texas’, 4 things instantly come to mind

  1. The Alamo
  2. Cowboys
  3. NASA
  4. The University of Houston

That was sarcasm to show how ridiculous your takes are, Law.

No one said UH was the #1 flagship university in Texas, much less yours truly, so stop MISREPRESENTING what anyone here is saying.

But even if we aren’t the #1 flagship university or flagship public U. in Texas
we are still, fundamentally, as a matter of fact, and without factual dispute a STATE university in the state of TEXAS.

That makes any stating or questioning of the fact that The State of Texas has something to do with the University of Houston
as you did
a laughable and correctable offense/violation of truth.

One worthy of posting in response to and arguing about/correcting you on.

that’s the whole argument, LAW.

No crap Houston is IN the state of Texas but it does NOT represent the State of Texas in the same way it Represents the CITY of Houston.

the average person in Amarillo
or El Paso knows next to nothing about the University of Houston so it most definitely does NOT represent the whole state in the same way UT, TAMU or even Texas Tech does.

Just give it up
running onto a field with a Texas flag won’t change that reputation and is a laughable defense form you

I can see it now
kid in Wichita Falls.Well I was going to apply to the University of Texas but you, know the Fontiersmen run on to the field with a Texas flag
so that school = Texas
I’ll apply to the University of Houston now,

Again, not entirely sure that’s true.

If it were
then why wasn’t PSJ “Houston’s Tallest Fraternity,” instead of “Texas’ Tallest Fraternity?”

Why is our biggest party and biggest annual tradition a Texas themed event instead of an urban/Houston themed event?

Why does our biggest spirit group wear cowboy hats and dusters instead of the latest urban fashions?

Why does our coaching staff put Texas logos on their coaching gear?

Why do I drive around with a Texas shaped UH logo on the back of my pickup?

Why does this website
arguably the #1 website for discussion of UH athletics, have a State of Texas themed logo, as opposed to a Houston one?

Why do we fight for local bragging rights against UT and aTm so often?

Why do we always bring our team onto the field with a State of Texas flag, and run the same flag across the field when the team scores?

Obviously
there’s more to what we stand for than merely the city, given that!

Just sayin’!

You ae making the WRONG argument.

yes, we are located in Texas
yes, we receive state funding , yes we mix in “some” Texas themes but all of that pales in comparison to our reputation IN our metro and our effort to connect with our CITY first and state second.

We wear Blue Oilers jerseys
not Dallas Cowboys jerseys or even Texas Flag inspired jerseys.

We have mottos FOR THE CITY and H-TOWN TAKEOVER not State themed slogans.

Also, non Houston area Texans is a very SMALL % of our incoming freshmen class proving we have a begger presence INSIDE of the Houston metro than outside of it.

We STILL have A LOT of work to do to improve our In-State and national reputation and I hope we do
but as of today, by almost everyone except YOU, we are regarded a Regional School first that receives limited state funding
we are not OUR States #1
or #2
or even #3 flagship option.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch
.

I remember having a cap with this on it when I was working for Intramurals

Again, not sure I agree, based upon the examples that I posted that seem to show that the CONTRARY is true (PSJ, Frontier Fiesta, Texas flags, Western themed spirit unis, State of TX coaching gear, etc).

I think that most people here would regard UT, aTm, and Tech, that is to say, OTHER TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITIES, as our most hated rivals and the people against whom we seek “water cooler” bragging rights over at work; NOT local schools like Rice, TSU, and HCU.

Given that
obviously we seek and demand respect at a way bigger level than just the local level, attempt to connect more at that level than merely locally, and seek to be recognized as not merely the best locally
but as the best in the STATE OF TEXAS in various endeavors as well.

That effort/emphasis seems to be one of “State” interest over “local” or “city” interest.

Have you considered that Fiesta’s current incarnation (since the 90s) is basically a carbon copy of a much larger tradition that happens at approximately the same time of year in this city?

Of course.

And the theme of that event is likewise typically TEXAN and RURAL (a livestock show, rodeo, and concert series with chiefly Country artists) with its Western theme.

It likewise doesn’t really have an urban or Houston theme. It seeks to connect at a more statewide level than a local level.

Point made.

So based on that, I rest my case.

That said
probably the best ROCK concert I ever went to see was the KISS concert at the rodeo back in 2011 right before leaving for Afghanistan the first time.

yes
but none of that stuff makes us the School that represents the entire State of Texas.

We are WAY down on that list
