Coogs still not getting any attention in the AP Poll or the Coaches’ Poll; not surprising

Coogs sitting at 54 in the RPI

Coogs are 2-4 against Top 50 teams
Coogs are 3-5 against Top 100 teams
There are a number of teams just outside the Top 100 that could move up and help the Coogs: 105 UCONN, 106 South Dakota, 111 Memphis, 113 George Mason, 120 Tulsa, 124 Temple

In the race for the AAC #3 seed, it’s either Houston or UCF. Houston loses the tiebreaker to UCF because UCF beat Cincinnati and if the two teams end up tied, Houston will have lost to Cincinnati this week.

Thursday
UCF at USF 6pm on ESPNU
Houston at Cincy 6pm on ESPN2

Sunday
East Carolina at Houston 3pm on CBS Sports Network

UCF only has one game left which is Thursday at USF. If they win, they will clinch a first round bye and be no worse than the 4th seed. Houston needs UCF to either lose that game or to win one of their last 2 games to clinch the 3rd seed.

As 3rd seed, we would play the winner of the 6/11 matchup in the 2nd round. At this moment, the 6th seed could end up being UCONN, Memphis, or Tulsa depending on results this week. The likely 6th seed will be Memphis who will likely play USF in the first round.

Hali Oughton and Mike O’Donnell break down the top headlines around the league entering the final week of the Men’s Basketball regular season.

Mike thinks that the AAC will get 3 teams in…Houston is high up on the bubble according to him and would really help themselves by winning out this week and winning 1 or 2 games in the tourney.

Has Gray as one of three players in the Player of the Year conversation.

Houston at Cincinnati is the most important AAC game of the week.

I know this isn’t really the thread for this, but I don’t know why Dotson isn’t getting more attention. He has been money the second half of the season.

I’m sure he is aware of that. Watch for him to take it out on some unsuspecting team. It’s money time.

East Carolina pulls the upset on UCONN (good lord Kevin Ollie). A little worrisome because it puts UCONN in a better position to be the 6th seed in the tournament. While we’ve handled UCONN fairly easily this year, I’d prefer not to play them on their court. Luckily, both Memphis and Tulsa would hold the tiebreakers over UCONN and push them down to 7th if all three end up tied (the most likely scenario).

If the most likely scenario happens, Tulsa would end up as the 6th seed and we’d end up playing the Tulsa/Tulane winner

Coogs under Next Four Out

BPI chance to make NCAA tournament: 42 percent

While none of the teams in the Next Four Out section of Bracketology is likely to make the NCAA tournament, Houston has the best shot. The Cougars are currently 61st in SOR, and they need to beat Cincinnati Thursday night (16 percent chance) or in the AAC tournament, or take down SMU in the league tourney.
