Safety first Bro!

Who are you referring to? Me?

And back in the day we didn’t have sports drinks. Just water and salt tablets.

It was so hot in the sun, my sun screen started bubbling up on my skin

I remember when we played in the Dome. Now that was one nice state-of-the-art tent.

Were they labeled “Academy”? I’ve got one of those.

Not sure why the embarrassment. What are other teams doing to keep the sun off their players?

The turf didn’t have rubber pellets. It had wooden pellets. Supposed to be better for players and keeps the field cooler too.

I have every idea the dedication it takes to get them where they are. I’ve seen my kids play in 100+ temps even in little league and never complain. Derek and his twin have run track in 112 temps at USATF nationals, so I know exactly what high temps can do to an athlete. A few minutes under a tent is not that big of a deal…move on

Last Game at Rice was brutally hot, yesterday was pretty nice

I’m as old school as any where we got salt tabs and a water break out of pvc pipe with holes drilled in it…but…we didn’t play on these new turf fields. They are unbelievably hot. Took field temp at Coog Field few years ago and it was 127…my feet felt like were burning just standing in coaches box. Frankly not having ez-ups to give players just few moments relief and slight chance to recharge isn’t using all your resources….could make the difference

I’m embarrassed we didn’t spend the extra $15 for the UH logo version.

Liability. Maybe insurance company requirement.

I don’t care about tents. I think what these athletes go through now is probably worse than what us old guys used to go through to toughen us up. I never will forget the 1st day of football in 7th grade in those pads in the august heat with no water. But it’s probably worse to be hydrated and pushed to the absolute brink of exhaustion day after day for months on end.

Actually, sir, I have been there as an athlete. A trained athlete. I’ve also endured heat watching my kids at every level of competition. I’ve sat and watched Derek play UH games when it’s boiling, but it doesn’t bother me. I never said your opinion was invalid, just expressing mine as well. I’ll be happy to stay in my lane. Have a wonderful day.

You don’t have any idea who you are talking to, do you? The only thing “utterly embarrassing” here is you.

I’m a retired lineman. Spent 35 years working outside year round. I think I know a little about working in extreme conditions. Doesn’t matter if I think kids are softer nowadays. They have every right to the benefit gained by a better awareness of heat related illnesses. They also have cooling air blowers set up along the sidelines and someone to provide you with electrolyte replenishing liquids as needed. Canopies provide better and healthier conditions, as long as they are set up in a way that doesn’t obscure the playing field from the lower seats, I’ve no problem with the them.

I bet you are tough. I spent the 1st 10 years on the railroad outside as well. I’m in an air conditioned cab while I run the train now but believe me I’m thankful for it every day.
