Portal, Coaching, Crisis

Forgive me because I feel a little justified in being a bit bitter and prickly about this. It’s either now or never to try to get this out, so bear with me for a sec.

We’re seeing the rest of our anticipated 19 returning starters going here and there. Big time name brands everywhere.

IMO, the worst part of it is the entire time we had to deal with the stereotype that these guys are simply disciplined, smart, hardworking, etc…but they just aren’t that good.

The subtle implication was always that Iowa State just didn’t have talent…they couldn’t possibly… so they don’t. Point blank. No need to analyze it beyond that.

The truth was ISU had talent the entire time, real god-honest 2 deep talent across the board, no matter what. Throw out the rankings, throw out the biases, call it development or blind luck…but at the end of the day, we always had it.

And nobody REALLY believed it, ever. I get it, it’s just a fact of life. That’s gonna happen to a team from Ames, Iowa.

But honestly? That’s the worst part. Now all of a sudden we got blueblood grifters hyping up our guys like they are gonna take the CFB world by storm. Like can’t-miss blue chippers. The only thing that changed is they won’t be playing for Iowa State anymore.

I know I’m not articulating why it’s the worst part very well, but I’m trying, and I do think you guys get it. It’s just a reminder that no matter what we do, we’re not really ever going to be allowed to be here. And I’m sure you guys get that feeling. The bad guys win again, but this time? They took something innocent and special…and they soiled it man. And now they rub our nose in it. It sucks.

That’s the worst part. And when god-willing Jimmy Rogers does the same thing… it will happen again. It will be marginalized and asterisk’d and dismissed away. Which is fine, so long as we get to keep it for ourselves. Now we don’t even have that anymore. None of it. Just gone and ritually corrupted and paraded around shamelessly. I know this happens everywhere now, it’s just wrong tho. There’s nowhere left to hide. That’s the worst part.

That has to hurt! Good work. Believe we’ve similar stories from our years wandering the desert of college football. I’ll have more to add later, I’m in bowling league, lol

Well, i feel for yall…No school has been hurt worse by NIL and coaches and players jumping around than Iowa State. You had a great team in 2024 and you can have a great team again. Just gotta have a coach who brings in a good culture and recruit kids who will buy into it…

We feel your pain for sure… our program has been marginalized only to have our coaches and players stolen for decades… but what has happened to you guys, the entire team transferring, is not only ridiculous but very bad for college football.

90210 explained it nicely. We’ve had 7 different mini-death sentences

But…it’s always tougher when you’re going through it as fans, when it’s current, in real time, as opposed to “in the past”. That’s for d sure. Sorry man!! I always rooted for IowaSt to beat the bluebloods OK and tu when they were going toe-to-toe with them in the Big 12, but then I root for anyone against tu.

A lot of coaches have contracts so there are written stipulations if they’re broken - I bet my left hand no average student transfer at this moment is forcing a university admissions office / registrar / housing department to work on campus vacations / holidays and weekends to adhere to this crazy deadline

And we’re talking about 50 plus extra students that’s has transferred multiple times all trying to be fit into a 1 week block

You think the average student can get waivers for unofficial transcripts, priority housing, etc to enroll at the speed of light?

Yall don’t want that and you know it :joy: there was a reason academic rules were bent and societal norms were broken at the time to cater to athletes once value was discovered in them - if those rules were enforced there would be different teams at the front of the line and a way different conversation at the end of the day

At this point, P4 schools need to have some type of junior college or FCS/G6 pipeline that softens the effects of mass exodus.

Here is a rule that could probably slow this down…

If a head coach takes a new job they can’t bring any players from their former school for 2 years from the portal.

I think you have a good idea and I would love to see it. BUT I see the NFL laughing all the way to the bank as they have their minor league now and it doesn’t cost them a discontinued penny. Colleges, alumni, fans and sponsors supply it all now. They are very quiet about the portal and NIL, like total silence. I do think the NFL owners are concerned that NIL will cost them problems with agents demanding bigger contracts so their incoming college guys don’t suffer a pay cut, LOL. Unfortunately I don’t see anything changing in the foreseeable future.

East Carolina QB who threw for over 3300 tds and 19 TDs last season, plus a good deal of yardage at Michigan State before that, has committed to Illinois.

The G6 is truly becoming the P4’s Triple A affiliate.

P4 to G6 back to P4. How many minor league options does he have left, haha.

On the plus side your AD said you are not selling your self to PE.

Utah sold 1/3 of their AD to play the game.

We will likewise be resorting to VooDoo black magic from here on out!

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Explains a lot, btw…I’m onto your 10-win Coog tactics now!

(what does Tang have to with this? Nothing, but why not…we already got all the stuff out.)

Tulane lost their head coach, Jon Sumrall, to Florida, so now Tulane players are testing the waters. Might I remind people that Tulane played in the CFP three weeks ago. Tulane has talent on its roster.

Oh yes, keep posting stuff like this. Especially when two of them are literally smalltown Iowa boys. People back home will love this.

Uh… thanks Rocco, I think?
