Why even have the combine drills if they don’t matter…
I thought they didn’t play D in the NBA anymore…?
How was a player that is so easily shutdown (just face guard him according to Unc) immediately ranked the #1 player in the transfer portal when he entered… something doesn’t add up…
I didn’t say he was “easily shutdown” lol. I said he struggled putting the ball on the floor and when strong defenders made him do that and didn’t give him open looks, he wasn’t successful. I also said he’s an elite shooter so that explains why. He’s 6’8 and shoots the lights out.
I think even Momcilovic and Otz would agree he’s wired very differently than your typical scorer.
It was an all out unconventional all-hands-on-deck effort to get him to be aggressive and hunt his shot. ISU invested in him mentally ans spiritually as much as anything. He’s not really an alpha by any means. I question if another program can get the best out of him like ISU did, just knowing what a long and labor-intensive struggle it was. And we did it happily.
The one benefit is theoretically on a super roster he’d just be asked to space the floor and shoot. At ISU he would have been asked to do a lot more, which his skill set is somewhat questionable to @uncleju 's consistent point.
He doesn’t really make plays for others and his ability to even create his own shot is somewhat limited. Tho he is better at it than I think some gave him credit for. Just that he only does a handful of things really well, but he’s really good at those few things and he’s tall.
It is worth noting the last 3 seasons ended with games where he was completely shut down in the ways @uncleju described. That’s a fact. This last time JJeff being out really contributed to this problem tho. I think a healthy Jefferson this last time makes it a lot harder for Tennessee to get away with guarding him they way they did.
So I think he does need a little help in that regard, I think. He’s probably the best #3 option in the country. Once you rely on him more than that, it gets a little debatable. He’s certainly NOT Dybantsa lol.
Not saying he can’t do it, not saying I wasn’t hoping we’d let him try to be ‘the guy’ at ISU this year. Just saying it’s entirely reasonable to have doubts.
But yes, Kentucky is the definition of desperate, so there’s that lol.
for players testing draft waters is a borderline first rounder 7 million isn’t that crazy especially since prices aren’t coming down anytime soon lol
the thing is for most power teams is do you take that 1 great player and just hope the scraps you get elsewhere is enough to steady the boat or take 3-4 good players and hope the pieces fit well enough to overcome the lack of talent
His defense is actually not bad. This narrative is dated. He made a big jump last year in this regard. He’d actually fit into your defense day 1 effectively, and he’d more than hold his own.
He’s never gonna be Scottie Pippen out there, but he can guard now, he’s far from a liability.
7 million is just not a good use of money. Q.Grimes is on a 1 year with the Sixers, 1st off the bench, 29 mins a game, 80ish game season, 8.7 million.
Can’t see how a college player with 18 home games can recoup that in any way.
Momcilovic is in an enviable position. Two instate hated rivalries driving up his NIL. True capitalism at work. He is worth whatever the market will pay.
