I think this is Mark Pope’s last yr at Kentucky
Their High School recruiting has tanked. Their transfer portal recruiting has stunk
Part of being an elite coach, is getting players to “believe” in your program & development.
Zoom Diallo & Alex Wilkins? Thats it. And all your team hit the portal. And no elite 5 star freshmen coming in.
You look at what Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida have done. The gap between them and Kentucky, huge.
Side note, i think the Big12 has had a mediocre portal season. Kansas asleep again. Baylor, do they even care? Iowa State has to replace a ton of production. Texas Tech, huge roster turnover. 2 real contenders (Arizona & Houston), maybe?

Those 3 leagues have all of the teams with the highest NIL programs…so their winning the BB recruiting rankings is to be expected.
Of course the Big10 & SEC have by far the largest media rights fees (& other athletics revenues) while the Big East programs spend nearly all of their NIL money on basketball (w/o football).

Here’s a fun breakdown of UH’s defense an ISU fan did a couple years ago.
I’ve always admired how UH is able to pair man to man concepts and details with their hard trapping style. It makes things a little more repeatable and versatile IMO. It minimizes the risk in the numbers game and allows UH to force turnovers and bad shots even when purposefully putting themselves at a disadvantage.
Look for Houston to mix in some drop coverage concepts for Diane this year. ISU did the same thing with Dishon Jackson in the 2024-25 season.

Pretty funny how East is consistently rated nicely by every outlet, and obviously our coaching staff, but one poster in here can’t seem to shake the fact that he didn’t play at Baylor last year. Maybe he knows something everyone else has missed. Perhaps he has information that nobody else has. Could it be that he is the insider we’ve always needed?! Or…maybe, just maybe…he’s WRONG.

If you are a college player and on the fence about entering the transfer portal, first off, “What are you waiting for?” Second, you better hurry up because entering the transfer portal closes at midnight, April 21, 2026.
That’s been my take on it, and if you’re in the same boat, I feel good about being right. I know in Kevin’s presser he said we have two development guys coming in which I don’t have an issue with.
But we do need another impact level player. I prefer a Thiam type big he’s not perfect but for his size seemed to move decently so we’re not totally counting on Diane to be the major factor down low. Plus Thiam down low also frees up Jojo to be his best as that down low weak side monster. But a dynamic guard like Anderson would be awesome as well.
