Portal will end Bowl Games

Sponsors aren’t going to pay money to host Alabama vs. Mercer or Ohio State vs Liberty at an offsite location nor will there be people willing to go see that

I do not believe this is what SEcoog had in mind.

Agreed.

But they will watch Alabama vs. say, Penn State in a game in pre-conference play. That’s what the Texas Kickoff is based on - something like that (although it makes a lot more sense for one of those teams to be near the event: not just 2 teams that might have big fan bases from semi-random locations).

So it might be Alabama and Texas Tech, or us, or LSU. Or Penn State vs us/Tech/LSU. That sort of thing. Mercer or Liberty need not apply. And it won’t be an end of season game: Alabama or Penn State might actually have an off season as it progresses, the “Bowl” will never know in advance.

Bowl games used to be an honor for having a great regular season. Now, coaches get fired after making one (i.e. Tony Levine).

You’re advocating for players missing all of Spring practice so that we can keep up appearances on some of these meaningless bowl games?

Plus Mercer is in FCS, they couldn’t play in it even if they wanted to lol

There are 11 playoff games. The last 7 are all more or less bowl games and listed as such…So the big bowl games are the playoff…The more minor bowls are home for the G5 teams and a few good P4 teams that didnt qualify for the playoff. A few may die off, but many will stick around…How excited you think Texas State is to be playing a bowl in Dallas on Jan 3? I am guessing pretty excited.
