Post-Cinci Thoughts...Anyone Else

I feel like we’re entering another Broadway vs. Piland civil war.

yes the officiating sucked. But they are AAC refs and they really fudge their calls in favor of the highest ranked team. It happened in the SMU Tulsa game as well. When SMU made comback all the calls except one or two small ones went in SMU’s favor.

Yep. It’s about to get ugly. :man:

I think Tune can win against the weak teams but against the good ones I don’t think so.

This would be great if we were playing high school teams. We’re not. This year, we have the toughest schedule in our conference, easily.

What kind of a comment is this?

LOL, I think you are under estimating young Tune…as a real soph the young man has gone through a lot, maybe even more than King. When healthy he is our best quarterback. Not saying Smith can’t be good but he has a long ways to go to learn this new offense also.
Tune did not lose the game against Cincy…dropped passes, lack of protection and a nasty hamstring contributed as well…granted he threw the picks, but one the touchdown certainly was not his fault…he was blindsided.
And how in the world do you know who could have won against a good team. Nobody on this roster could have beaten OU…and King should have helped us beat WSU…and I think possibly King might have helped us beat Cincy, but who knows.
I am very happy with Tune and I think he runs this offense better than anyone else and that is why he is starting, even with a bad hammie…
King redshirting put us in a mess…no matter whose idea it was…

I cannot understand why Stevenson, Smith, and Singleton play only half the snaps… I’m not sure that the group Stevenson and Smith rotate with have accounted for more than 75 yards at receiver all season… let’s not forget about the 50 yard catch Stevenson made that was thrown out of bounds; and the other 40 yarder he had that was great catch to get us in red zone, but we settled for FG.

I was looking at ESPN stats and Stevenson has 234 yards and 3 TDs receiving against AP T-25 this season and averaging o40 yards per reception in conference games. But he’s on the field half the snaps.

All this being said, Holgorsen is Holgorsen… no pressure from media, fans, or players will change his game plan. He’s a decent coach but very arrogant and believes his scheme can win out over talent; it is not about personnel to him. When he has his recruiting classes, they will be better suited to his scheme.

(But with the team morale, fans’ lack of interest, and subpar record… he may not be getting very talented players to fit his “scheme”)

A smart one :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Only if you Don’t Fear The Reaper…

He’s put out to pasture until next season.

Maybe it has something to do with changing a culture in which gameday stats can override poor effort in practice.

Holgersen is all about practice.

He literally is punishing those who do not practice hard with reduced playing time.

Well the culture is changing towards poor effort in games and 2-4 record… some people don’t put forth poor effort in practice, they’re just game-guys when the adrenaline is flowing!

I think it’s a poor culture to “punish” someone who has poor effort in practice but when the game is close and you only have 1-2 playmakers you go to them, no matter their “practice” habits. Seems we only go deep to Stevenson out of necessity, not strategy. Obviously there is some conflict there between the two, but I would grade Stevenson’s performance much higher than I would Holgorsen’s this season. :man_shrugging:t2:

In Holgersen’s press conference someone tried to ask about Chambers.

Cutting the reporter short Dana said that Chambers “was not a starter”.

He isn’t because of practice issues. When he does play he seems to play pretty well.

I don’t mind punishing players for poor practice habits. Everyone is on the same team working for the same goal.
Great players become super when they practice hard. It makes them better. Talent can take you a long way. But talent backed up by a strong work ethnic and discipline can make you great.
Mediocre talent with a hard work ethic can make a player really good. Practice at your trade can only make you better.

Coach Yeoman had “Camp Fun” during the off season. Turned boys into Men.

If you could not survive Camp Fun, and then Spring Training, you did not play for Yeoman.

Hard ass routines create real players. That seems to be what Dana is trying to do.
