i gotta say, CKS answering “what keeps you going?” with “well, no one coaches forever” is, uh…not what I was hoping for.

If Coach is inducted to the Naismith Hall of Fame (decision announced during Final Four weekend), the only thing left to coach for a title. He’s got all the money he can ever spend.
And a title looks at least a couple years away, with next year being a major rebuild.
Plus, Kellen is not getting any younger.

Exactly. How can you be mad at these kids who put it all on the line out there and work their tails off for years to get to this point? Great kids, great program. This is why you’ll never see me talk down on kids, and always say something when some other posters don’t seem to get it . They work too hard and bring too much to this program. You get it!

UH will never rebuild, it’s re-tooling, if his was 2005 then yes but it’s 2026 - more NIL funds, little more mature squad and we will be back in the final 4 next year

Last year was our pinnacle, we can reload with good players but 28% from three and 55 points will never win. 22 points at half and 26 most of second half getting down by 18 points you can say sweet 16 is probably our ceiling.

Hill, so many of us suffered through the eras where you literally couldn’t tell if anyone cared about anything within the program, that to see this kind of true love (and pain) of the shared experience and what they could…and ultimately couldn’t…do for each other makes me love this program more every day.
This week hurts, but the hurt is for all of them as people and I’m just glad we get to go on the journey. It sucks as fans, but man this is so much better than the alternative we’ve also gone through.

You think that’s old for a basketball coach?
FWIW. Tommy Lloyd was an assistant coach for exactly 20 years (all at Gonzaga) before getting the job at Arizona. I think Tommy was 45 or 46 at the time he was hired by AZ. Kellen has been an assistant for 17 years and is likely going to take over here after 20 years as an assistant and will be 44.

Try not to forget Kellen has watched somebody else drive a car.
Michigan brought in 4 high level transfers this year plus several HS recruits. So rebuilding on the fly can be done, you just need to be smart about it.

Agreed. I think '25 was the year for us to win it all. The last time before that was 1982. That said we went to the final four in '21 so if CKS hangs around, maybe we get another shot to win the natty in '29? Or another 40 years from now?
