Potential divisions for the big 12

We fit perfectly with the West Division. 3 old SWC foes, the Cowboys, and a showdown with the Blue Cougs. Major upgrade!

Name the divisions something interesting and descriptive. Hate and Rage would work.

Hype it like a WWE promo. Two angry programs from the Hate division square off in the rectangle of disdain in a stadium match.

If KU/KSU/ISU go for it, it sounds great. I would not if I were them, but maybe they see something I don’t.

I dont think the Kansas schools are going to be calling the shots in football. Though I’m not really sure why they would have an issue with the above alignment.

The original alignment, with a Texas+ division that they were not in, had a lot of objections in the north. Tom Osborne was very vocal about it, but I think they all felt it.

I mean you’re talking about a different situation with a lot of different players. It makes sense to set the divisions up to balance travel costs and maximize rivalries. For instance you have two programs that are going to be totally geographically isolated (UCF+BYU), it makes sense to split those two up. If you start with that, youre left basically trying to come up with the best 2 combinations of 5 teams. The above alignment looks to be about as balanced as you could make it.

I’m fine with either E/W or N/S divisions PROVIDED that they keep the four TX schools plus Okie State in one division.

All five of the schools spent at least some time in the SWC.

That’s essentially the SWC REBORN!!!

The East/West divisions above are great for us but also not exactly fair overall. You have one compact division with four teams in and one adjacent to a recruiting goldmine with minimal travel except to Provo, and then you have another division spanning from Iowa to Orlando to West Virginia. That’s great for one division, but not the other.

If I were doing two divisions, I would probably slice up geography to a degree and spread the travel between the divisions. One division would be two Texas schools plus Oklahoma State and the eastern three. The other division would be the other two Texas schools, the northern three, and BYU. Some geographical grouping, but splits the travel duties and other things up evenly enough I’m not even sure which division I’d prefer us to be in.

Here’s a K-State proposal to do away with divisions entirely.

The NCAA would have to change the rules again, but I suspect they would. I’d do the pods differently than he does*. If the NCAA doesn’t change the rules, you can stack the pods into divisions.

  • My pods:
    Houston, Texas Tech, BYU
    Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma State
    Kansas, K-State, Iowa State
    Cincinnati, West Virginia, UCF

Watch them take one last shot at us…

The Real B12 Division
The Fake B12 Division
