PREGAME CHAT: Houston vs. Colorado | Sep. 12 | 6:30PM | ESPN

I’m specifically working from home that day to get there early (I stay near campus)

& also to get the Mayan Mocha Latte from Cougar Grounds to support the students (and because it’s a damn good coffee).

Does Mario Puente sell any of his prints?

I’m sure many of us would love to buy some: he’s caught many memorable UH moments across different sports.

We need to be loud.

I really hope we go 1-0 this week. Man that would be a breath of fresh air.

I’ve never asked him, but I will.

Maybe it’s because I’m young and graduated from a school that put 100K people in a stadium every week, but us Coog fans need to do better about hollering. Only games I can remember thinking, man we are loud, is 2015 Memphis, 2016 Louisville, and 2023 Texas was pretty good. Not saying we haven’t had loud games outside of those, but I mean the kind of loud that people on TV say “dang they’re going crazy”. Our stadium is really good at holding in that sound.

It’s important to note we were also max capacity for those games I mentioned, which hasn’t happened much since the Herman era.

Are you an Aggie or Horn?

Yeah, I remember a couple times the last few years (in the Big 12 era!) thinking to myself “damn, this is a one-score game and you could hear a pin drop.” If someone were just listening to our crowd at the SFA game, they could be forgiven for thinking the score was reversed.

Hey Houston, I’ll be in town for the game this week with a few Buffs fans. I’ve never been to Houston. Are there any pre-game recommendations?
What do you all think about the game? I’ve noticed the line increasing in Houston’s favor. I think it’s about time to hit the ML to pay the mortgage.

I heard the Ritz Houston is a pretty good place to get the pre-game festivities going.

We played them on a Friday in Austin in 2020.

No idea why, but I know that for a fact.

(ISU won btw)

Also played them on Thursday in Ames multiple times. Doesn’t really matter, just remember this off the top of my head so thought id share.

If You want to make a payment on your mortgage, bet on Houston… welcome to the message board.

hell yeah. I see they even have a buffet. We don’t have many options like that in Boulder.

Houston is well-coached, physical, and tough as sh**. That’s a top 25 defense. No weaknesses, except maybe catching interceptions lol

Their QB is very talented, can hurt you with his arm and legs. Doesn’t like to get down, wants to finish runs hard. Really a good fit with this overall style from a culture and leadership standpoint. Just gotta be patient and take the game as it comes to him. Can’t try to do too much which can lead to the big mistake or getting dinged up unnecessarily.

they have 3 very good running backs that bring a nice mix of skills, and a stud TE.

Still a bit of a work in progress at WR and OLine, but they will be fine there eventually I think.

For me? If UH plays clean and secures a couple takeaways, they are beating Colorado, as well as most Big 12 teams.

Plenty of good places to eat off of Kirby Dr. at I-69 (many still call it it’s old name 59 or SW Fwy) — My favorite is Goode Co. BBQ — plenty of parking in back.

Also, a good Coog sponsor, Star Pizza, N of Shepherd & 69

You can do paid parking in Green Lots — it’s text-to-pay — there will be signs directing you.

Add 1/2 an hour to your desired arrival time — lots of construction on campus — when you get out of your car, ask for directions, etc. — we’re friendly.

The campus is safe, the neighborhood around UH can be salty.

For good BBQ close by campus check out J-Bar-M Barbecue. Plenty of parking and also a Coog Sponsor. They’ll be open at 11am so yall can swing by for lunch or an early dinner.

As I understand things, it is both I-69 and SH-59, no?

For the uninitiated, “arrival time” should be at least an hour before game time if you’re driving in from pretty much anywhere. Traffic will suck, parking will be a cluster, and there will probably be a snafu with the ticket scanners to let you in.

I drive in from out of town, so I’m aiming for 5:00 pm. If you can find a group to tailgate with (or maybe take the train in from downtown), that takes away the stress of trying to get parked and into the game.
