Preseason Football Rags (Publications)

Went by Barnes and Noble today. They had the Lindys Southeastern version on the shelf. No Big 12 or general college football version. Really quite disappointed. I mean it had 6 pages on Vanderbilt, 6 on Miss St, and 1 on UH.

Then got home and checked the Lindys site and they only had three college versions shown: Southeastern, Big Ten and General. Not even a Big 12 or ACC,

Haven’t checked the others, but hopefully no one buys Lindy if they can’t do a Big 12. Probably buying less from B&N for not having even the general one in stock.

I have their national edition.

I used to buy the preseason magazines religiously, but times have changed. The magazines have gotten wildly expensive and with all the free digital content and social media available, I am no longer buying the magazine. I still have a soft spot for Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and may get it for the college and high school coverage.

I buy Dave Campbell’s every year.

I usually by Lindy’s national preview simply because they not only cover every I-FBS team, but have I-FCS, II, and III previews as well.

Used to swear by Phil Steele. Don’t purchase any, anymore.

Besides lacking lower division previews, the other problem with Phil Steele is that a lot of the material is basically a rehash of previous season predictions in which he basically goes back and says see…I predicted x, y, and z….blah, blah, blah…see how I always get it right?l

It gets a bit tedious.

The only copy of Dave Campbell’s magazine I have is for the year I was in there as a football prospect coming out of high school. lol. by name only but felt awesome.

Lindy’s? Buy the national version…Just go on line and order it. Big 12 has just as much coverage as SEC, BIG. They have had a Southeastern version and a national version for many years. Lindy’s has 6 Big 12 teams ranked in their top 25, and does a good job of covering Big 12.

Its probably been ten years since i checked out one but Steele’s were my favorite. What changed?

For me personally, paper is just a waste. I get all my information online. I loved getting the newspaper, was a subscriber to the Post. Thought about subbing to the Chronicle then read on Google it’s nearly impossible to cancel. Screw that.

His self-congratulatory tendencies in his write ups is one thing.

Lack of lower division coverage is the other.
