Any thoughts?
It’s Golden At-Bat , not bat.
And I think it’s dumb.
These are major league batters, not 9 year olds playing in the empty lot.
Every man hits for himself, period.
I just heard that the Commissioner apparently has approved it.
I actually like this more than the rule banning shifts.
First DHs in the NL and now this dumb rule…
I like DHs in the NL.
Every level of truly competitive baseball except the NL permitted the use of designated players.
No reason why the NL should continue to be the oddball.
I hate it. A Golden Bat would be gimmicky. Reality TV type stuff.
Just pick up Savannah Banana rules…
He has not approved it……it was an idea, a very stupid idea.
Polling shows over 90% of fans do not want….it will not happen.
What percentage of fans wanted to ban shifts?
The fans may not be the determining factor.
I met a lot of Astros fans that were literally BELLIGERENT with me about not moving to the AL.
Where are they today?
Actually, I just did a little research. 76% of Astros fans OPPOSED the move to the AL at the time.
Guess what? It happened because regardless of what the fans may have wanted, the owners wanted it to happen, and they’re the ones that decide such things. THEY get what they want, fans be damned.
Based on this, the owners appears to be discussing the Golden At Bat.
Not saying it’s going to happen by any means…but if the owners want it…and this suggest that they very well might or at least are open to the idea…then it’s likely going to happen, fans be damned.
The Astros changing divisions has nothing to do with fans wanting or not wanting….it was going to happen period.
For Crane to buy the team he had to agree to it.
And “a golden AB “ is much different than banning the shift……it’s total bush league.
There is not “buzz” about anything, that is a flat out lie….The sorry sack commissioner who knows nothing about baseball is making things up.
And didn’t you just say “the commissioner apparently approved it”?
Where on earth did you get that? It has to go through a rules committee first and it’s not getting voted in….
And can you fix your topic line….its not a “Golden Bat”.
Thought I had heard it; I apparently was mistaken and stand corrected.
But the Commissioner did indeed say that there was buzz among the owners on this.
We’ll see.
Again, if the ownership wants it, they’ll get it…just like the Astros move to the AL.
What the fans want won’t matter.
Jan. 25, 2029 can’t come soon enough for me.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred says he will retire in January 2029
Make it an all- in, double or nothing rule. You can choose a moment to put your best hitter in, but that at bat will end the game. If you don’t take the lead with that at bat, game over you lose.
He needs to be replaced……is it possible?
And then afterwards, the pitcher gets to kick the opposing manager in the nuts.
I’m still trying to figure out wth the “golden bat” is.
“What fans want” was the impetus behind the changes that were just implemented. Why would that not matter now?
The “buzz” he referred to was probably a bunch of guys collectively going “WTF is this clown talking about?”
It’s difficult to adequately describe how stupid this idea is, and I don’t think it’s worth the effort.
Hey listen. I’m ambivalent about it.
But we don’t really know what the “buzz” is. Might be good…might be bad. We’ll see.
If the owners want it…then as I said…it’s gonna happen, fans be damned.
Just like the Astros move to the AL.
Didn’t matter that the fans didn’t want it. The ownership did. So BAM…it happened.
As has been discussed ad nauseum, the AL move was nothing like this proposed abomination, so citing it as evidence is worthless. Move on if you’re really ambivalent.
