We got 7 votes and needed 8. Ole Miss was our sponsor. Rice worked non stop to keep us out by getting LSU, Vandy and someone else to vote no.

Back in the day, LSU used to play Rice, in part to allow their Houston alumni to see them in person, and to recruit the Houston area. LSU knows that playing UH, especially with UH’s resurgence, will be a little too competitive for their liking for a non-conference game.
With the SEC playing 9 conference games beginning in 2026, good luck getting LSU to agree to a series with UH.
