I would like to suggest we repurpose the Bayou Bucket for 2027 and beyond. It seems we are developing a natural rivalry with LSU over not just bragging rites but players as in A.J.Haulcey. So Coogfans consider the Bucket being renamed the “Bayou Gumbo Pot”. It is played for among UH,LSU and Rice . In order to possess the Trophy you got beat the one of other the Univ . If you play both in one year you got to beat both or something like that. Why include Rice in the Gumbo Bayou Pot? Well we are the Bayou City and the one universal truth is one must always have rice for the Gumbo Pot. I could see this developing into a massive BBQ and Gumbo Cook-off CajTex event ! Talk about drawing a crowd !

We’ve only played them four times, that’s not a rivalry.
We’d have a 3-1 record against them if Helton wouldn’t have blown the lead in the 4th quarter in Baton Rouge in 1996.

I don’t remember the SEC wanting us in the 70s. We were begrudgingly allowed to join the SWC.
Wasn’t around then but I read it here some time ago:
We did attempt to join in the 1950s but never received enough votes.
I would be very surprised if LSU ever agreed to play us anywhere, but Baton Rouge or possibly a neutral site, like NRG stadium, Alamodome, Superdome, etc.
I would love having them play us at TDECU Stadium, but it won’t happen.

Personally, I would like to see LSU on UH’s schedule every single year and include basketball as well. While I’m dreaming, put Arkansas on there too.

LSU will probably try to tell you they are too BIG and BAD to play us ‘little people’ on a regular out of conference basis. I have always thought we should play LSU and Arkansas as many times as possible at everything- especially when the cows and the farmers were looking down their noses at us.
Our PSJ games against ARKY were a blast. I’d love to see that again. And I think we played LSU in the college baseball tourney and that was amped up. That was cool.

There are rivalry week SEC non-conf opponents. Thanksgiving week. Kentucky-Louisville, South Carolina-Clemson, Georgia-G Tech, Florida-FSU. I forget who LSU plays that week. Its also Auburn-Bama, Egg Bowl, Vandy-Tenn. If we could get in that week it would be huge. The SEC might not like these though, they’ve taken a lot of non-conf losses recently in these.
OK i just looked and it’s LSU-Oklahoma. So that’s a natural split because Bedlam should happen that week and we can play LSU at NRG. SEC might take that deal, they won’t do a home and home. Georgia-Tech is often at Mercedes Benz.
