This flew under my radar until last night and I suspect many are still unaware of it.
I’m aware. It’s pretty ridiculous, they claim that Houston’s policy puts public safety at risk so the solution is to withhold funds that pay for public safety, thus putting public safety further at risk.
Even if you believe that the policy puts safety at risk, the “solution” only makes the problem worse.
In other words, it’s politics not people that they are worried about.
This made the National news tonight. Safety/protect its citizens is the #1 job of why politicians are elected. Abbott is exactly right to do this. Sanctuary cities are illegals, period. If you think people do not care? Tell that to the Angel Moms that have lost loved ones from repeated offenders that should not be in the country. This is not a mirage but reality.
Abbot is right to take away funds that would go to safety efforts and protect citizens? He’s right to defund the police?
Never thought I’d hear you say that.
Sanctuary cities are the exact opposite of protecting citizens. Just ask Californians.
Chris, if you believe that the City of Houston policy endangers public safety - fine. If you believe that the Governor should do something about it - fine. However, what the Governor is doing is taking away funds that go to safety efforts and essentially defunding the police. So, he’s only compounding the problem.
In other words, he thinks Houston is less safe so his solution is to make it even more less safe.
It is like if the punishment for speeding was to take away your brakes.
