I saw a clip on Twitter about purple jacket man but can someone give me the rest of the story. When was that and which coach?

The press conference today in juxtaposition to that one is a testimony to just how far the program has come.

Today the questions were all asked by media.

It was from Art Brile’s intro presser… they guy (in the photo) with the purple jacket raises his hand and asks CAB “how many hands does it take to catch a football?” CAB was a bit confused and stammered (obviously NOT on the inside of this inside joke) and he says, “two?” and then purple jacket guy says “really, it’s 22.” Noone knew they guy, most assumed he was someone from CAB’s high school coaching days who had heard CAB talk to the team about team effort and it’s more than one guy etc etc.

Yes , Sumlin. I was standing 10 feet from the purple icon.

Sumlin was the best coach and my least favorite person. Even before he left I thought he was personally an a-hole.

But the dude could coach before alcohol took him down.

A good coach doesn’t create a Allen - Murray mess like he did at aTm.

As far as I know, no one was able to identity purple jacket coog. That was a time when our fanbase was a bit more, we’ll say intimate, so makes me think he was a bit of an outsider.

I always wish I knew the rest of the story with him. I also want to know whose bright idea it was to take questions from the public. :joy:

I remember sitting there wondering what was up with a dude showing up in that purple jacket, but I kind of chalked it up to him just putting on whatever was handy.

Then, the vibe that followed him asking his “question” made me look around the room and wonder if that’s what every school’s new coach press conferences were like. So weird.

Strangest thing ever at a UH presser. Suspect the old boy escaped from a nearby skilled nursing facility

Hey, I found him!
Hmm, I think I will start a series of these as I unearth other weird presser moments over the years…

I didn’t see it mentioned, but didn’t someone also ask Levine this question and he immediately said 22?

I think he was just an old fan that wanted to take part in it. In retrospect I’d take him over LeBush or AppleFritter.
