QB is the PROBLEM

We are every bit as good as Cincinnati and KU. The difference is, they both have superior athletes at QB and we don’t. Donovan continues to underwhelm. He has moments of greatness followed by terrible mental lapses. Yesterday’s attempted flea flicker was a perfect example. Instead of realizing the play was breaking down and running to a wide open right side of the field, Donovan threw into double coverage and of coarse was intercepted, killing every bit of momentum we had. This is a reoccurring theme.

Also, if you study Donovan’s tenure at QB you’ll notice that once Donovan throws an interception, it starts to affect his decision making. Seems like he starts second guessing himself, taking too long to throw, OL protection starts to give way, and our whole offense grinds to a screeching halt. This happens week in and week out. Sadly, this is all mental and can’t be coached away.

So you’re saying we are as good? Or not? Sounds like you’re actually saying we are not.

The team as a whole is good. Defense in particular is much improved over recent years. But as we all know, without a consistently good QB you’ll be mediocre at best. Your QB can’t throw 3 interceptions in a game and still expect to win.

That’s on Fritz. He put his eggs in the Donovan Smith basket. Jordan McCloud could be our QB right now.

We have to get two quarterbacks next season to be good. Starting and backup. I do not believe we have next years starter on campus.
At least we have three remaining games to tailgate.

In CWF’s defense, because of Donovan injury, he didn’t see him at all in spring and only limited in fall practice. But Donovan was our only QB with Big XII experience and was the senior leader. He made the decision most of us would’ve made

He had plenty of tape to watch though. Should’ve told him what he needed to know.

The defense is give Fritz is he got a late start to find a transfer.

Except at Coach, OC, O-Line, QB, WR, RB, Kicker, punter, long snapper, holder, punt return, kick return, shall I continue?

Donovan had a better QB rating at KU than Jordan did at ODU.

KU is better at kicker?

He got it in the endzone every time he kicked.

I disagree. I think the OLine is much improved. Teams just rush 5 or 6 and DS loses his focus.

Our OC and QB never get a big play off a blitzing D even when we pick up the blitz.

WR are good. Not a lot of drops. RBs run hard. ST has improved.

I think the OP is right.

They know DS will not through deep. There you go.

Somewhat improved but still bad. QB play is not good but part of that is an OL that can’t pass block, slowish wrs, poor route running wrs and wrs/tes that don’t block well or at all.

The title of this thread needs to be corrected…

“The QB and the OC are the problems”

After the season if the OC issue is not corrected it should read…

“Willie is the problem”

The best QB Fritz inherited gets hurt at end of spring and misses this whole year. (McMickle) The QB Fritz brings in to help is decent but injury prone and misses way too much time being hurt. (Criss). Ale, for whatever reason, doesnt play much. Fritz is stuck playing Smith because he has to. Next year, we have a top QB coming in, plus our returnees next year and QB figures to be a much better played position than it has proven to be this year. I think we’ll also add another QB who will help. We’ll be a lot better next year.

Its almost like transfer qbs hardly workout…how about actually recruiting a good qbs and starting them…

Makes sense, but in the new NIL world if they are any good it’s likely they’ll get stolen. Just ask Golden. There’s always gonna be a higher bidder.

You are what your record says you are. Everything else is just noise.

Yesterday our D sucked. They ran for 240 yards on us. On O we actually were throwing the ball but the QBs on the roster are just mediocre.

We still cannot run the ball.

Special teams also stinks.

Sorry but that sounds like a bad team.

Except for the fact that they beat us like a drum. It wasn’t the QB that let them score at will.
