I’m not surprised, at all.
I’ve known, for a long time, how special he is, but I also understand it takes results for a fan base to discover it for themselves.
2026 could be a real surprise for a lot of folks; not just within the conference, but even nationally.

I agree that coaching matters and connecting with coaches is important. There are many good coaches and assistant coaches in college football. If you read the recruiting visits of top recruits, all of them say, in one way or another, they connect with the coaching staff. To make a recruit’s top destinations to sign, he has to connect with the coaching staff.
In my opinion, the overwhelming differentiator is NIL. It’s not 100%, but closer to 100% than 50%. That is why you see the ridiculous number of transfers. A recruit signs with a team citing “the coaching staff” and “family atmosphere”, and a year later transfers. Same coaching staff, same family atmosphere.
If it was closer to 100% then why is it that uta and atm are nowhere near close to the number of National Championships that USC and bama have? They are not even in the same galaxy if we compare numbers. If it was 100% or close to it indiana would have never won last year’s cfp. Indeed money matters but I do believe that many four or five stars players are over rated. Talent alone does not win you a championship. It can get you far but it is not the deciding winning factor.
