Especially us 0- types. I hit my 5 gallon donation level and just quit. Maybe it’s time.

I’m a regular platelet donor at MD Anderson. A significant portion of my wardrobe is free MD Anderson T-shirts. They’ve got a new one every month.

Their blood center on Holly Hall is fast and convenient, and the nurses there are a blast, they keep it lively.

Guys, not to draw focus, but my son had leukemia when he was 5 1/2 months. Damn near death so many times.

One big thing that saved him was the huge amount of platelets donated in his name by pretty much every person I ever called a friend out here in Los Angeles. They had so much excess donor traffic from people wanting to help, they put his picture up in the blood bank of Children’s Hospital.

So yes. I saw first hand how it saves lives. It saved my son’s.

Please donate if you can.

And please, don’t think you can’t make fun of me after this.

Are you the former Shasta who could have kicked the Oregon Duck’s arse anytime you wanted, but showed great restraint for some reason?

No, that was a few guys after me. He was actually a football walk on. I was at that game, actually a few feet away from the whole thing. In some clips, you can see a red Hawaiian shirt, that’s me.

Dirty pool from the Oregon Duck. Did NOT play by the mascot rules at all. Eff him.

Are these written down or unwritten?

Thanks…we were there too. Agreed. Hopefully that duck is doing kids birthday parties nowadays.

I give every 2 months. I figure I’m getting rid of old blood and replacing it with new, fresh blood.

Always give on Friday mornings. Makes the evening margarita go farther.

They are passed down through the oral and physical traditions.

Honestly, I went to a mascot camp where they taught us all that. Don’t think the duck went.

How is your son today? I hope all is well.

actually when you do donate, the new blood helps with oxygenation. i maintain if you continually improve your diet, excercise; impprove your health as you age, the new blood will be healtheir but i have yet to find a study on it.

He’s doing pretty well, considering. It took quite the toll on his body, and he lost his hearing, but we got him cochlear implants early on, and now he’s attending Pasadena City College. He was a very, very happy kid, less so as a teenager, as per usual I would imagine.

Thanks for asking.

I’m glad he’s doing well. Chemo is a b****. Teen years can be, too. :joy: But you grow out of being a teenager.
