maaaaaaaaan…
That’s terrible.
WHY WOULD YOU WRITE WHY AFTER ALL EVERYONE HAS BEEN THROUGH AND KEPT IT QUIET FOR SO LONG.
It usually takes 6-8 weeks before tox reports are released is why its just now coming out.
Maybe he had no knowledge that fentanyl was present?
This a sad story. Reggie was just trying to celebrate and got his hands on wrong stuff. Sad sad sad. A few shots of good Scotch would have been better.
Glad I am in my 40’s and not my 20’s anymore. We had wild times and pretty sure it would not end well these days.
We’ll probably never know what exactly happened but regardless, this was a horrible tragedy. Sadly, happens every day…often.
So many unintentional, accidental overdose deaths. People having no idea they are taking tainted drugs. These are not drug addicts overdosing. We have an acquaintance whose son recently died of a fentanyl overdose. Kid was not into recreational drugs; great kid. He was an athlete. Initial speculation is he took some tainted Vicodin for back pain.
A few years ago, a kid on the Rice football team died of a fentanyl overdose. Kid was projected to be a 1st round NFL prospect. Not into recreational drugs. All American type dude. Kid hit up a buddy for a couple of Vicodin to deal with aches and pain. Turned out the Vicodin had been laced with carbo fentanyl. They found the kid dead in his bed. His buddy who scored the street drugs was convicted. He had no clue either. He didn’t make the drugs. He thought he was dealing black market Vicodin.
Reggie was a collegiate and professional athlete. He experienced lots of injuries, aches and pains. If he needed a pain killer of some kind, it is surprising he wouldn’t be taking a prescription written specifically for him. But we have no idea what happened. Reggie was not a drug addict. Reggie likely thought he was taking something legit for aches/pains. Fatal mistake.
One simply can’t take a drug which did not come from a pharmacy, prescribed specifically to you. Sadly, it is now Russian roulette to do so.
Such a shame and senseless loss. But of course, every accidental death is.
Reggie was one tough Coog. Gone far too early.
Rest easy Reggie.
Exactly I’m a pharmacist people should not take someone else’s medicine period, if the pain is that bad go buy some Advil then go see a Dr, no excuse for this nonsense anymore, people should no better, especially with Fetanyl all over the news these days, just don’t do it
@houstonironman former Longhorn QB, Sam Ehlinger. Played at UT during the Tom Herman era
Ehlingers younger brother overdosed on what he thought was Xanax. Was laced with fentanyl. Passed away in 2021
It’s a very tragic problem in this country
I saw the news report last night and the police or medical examiner or whoever said its believed to be an accidental overdose.
UH has been working on a vaccine for the last 5 years
Please, it’s not an overdose, it’s a POISONING.
Don’t buy pills from the black market 70% have fentanyl in them. You are playing Russian roulette with you life. Medical fentanyl is a great drug for people with cancer pain. Medical fentanyl comes in patch form or it’s injected into your ivy. There is no medical pill for fentanyl. That crap is coming from the cartels in Mexico disguise as other pills
We need to get test kits out to everyone. People are going to use drugs, no matter how/or what laws or other changes are made. If test kits were widely distributed, maybe some lives could be saved. I feel horrible for Reggie, his family, and all that are hurting from this tragic loss. I have some personal experience here, as i lost my younger Sister as a result of mixing some prescription medications. Sad stuff all the way around. My heart breaks for Reggie’s family.
More people die from illegal prescription drugs than from the street drugs of the past.
Those are illegal in Texas. Our wise state leaders still consider tests as “drug paraphernalia.”
According to a dea presentation I heard at work a couple weeks ago, there are a ton of knock off prescription drugs circulating that are laced with fentanyl. Either intentionally or just incidentally from contaminated lab equipment during manufacture. Doing street drugs is literally like playing Russian roulette these days its crazy.
Fly High Reggie!!!
I’ll never forget when he had that massive dunk against UVA!
I WENT BALLISTIC IN THE STANDS!!!
