I think the problem is the RPI formula is flawed.
Here are 4 high RPI teams that did not get in (there are others, too):
NC State - 33
Clemson - 34
Wofford - 35
UTSA - 36

Had it gone strictly by RPI, these 4 get in (but at whoâs expense?).
Iâve asked that question myself. It would eliminate a lot of controversy if theyâd release the formula so it could be verified, then use it as you suggested. Sometimes it seems they look to Boyd Nations ISRâs (a more objective rating in my opinion) or the polls when picking sites and participants. Itâs as if the ncaa doesnât have confidence itâs own formula.
At these teams expense. # 50 GCU, # 48 UCLA, # 45 Tx Tech, # 41 Ark.
Grand Canyon for one
So are we NIT or CBI bound? When do we get a new coach?
I donât think we would have made the baseball NITâŠâŠPossibly a #1 or 2 seed in the baseball CBI thoughâŠ.
Iâm rooting for ECU all the way. Not because theyâre in our league. Iâm rooting for them because they didnât take every opportunity to act like a douchebag when they were kicking our ass. If it were Tulane or Memphis Iâd be rooting for them to get killed.
Quick question: has SMU never had a baseball team. I thought they had one when I went to school.
Never mind. No, they didnât.
It looks like SMU dropped BB in 1981. We played them last in 1980.
Thatâs why you canât go by just RPI. Arkansas went 18-12 in the SEC. Clemson went 13-16 in the ACC (they just fired their head coach). If you went by RPI Clemson gets in to the tournament.
