Too expensive, unscalable.
Many of these odd “sustainable” energy alternatives lack investment incentives. It would be much easier to focus on scalable technology that already has intertia → Solar & Wind
Even Nuclear is unscalable unless there’s a mechanism to drive investment → Data Centers
It is interesting and shows ingenuity in that they used what they had to meet needs and was long term sustainable. It served two useable purposes with an investment incentive to show that it could be a local coastal solution. Not everything has to be scalable.
In continuing to use these plants, even if they are expensive and difficult to scale, it could allow for research into a potential technological change that could shift the paradigm. So, really, it should be “uncalable pending new technology”.
