The first thing I think of when I see elbow rims is Rice University. 
Rice don’t roll slab… 
I have a friend who grew up in South Central Los Angeles, under some pretty terrible circumstances. He and his friends from the old neighborhood are USC fans, because it was right around the corner from them and that’s what they know. They jokingly call it the university of south central. Crazy to think about the wild contrast in culture from the school to the neighborhood, but it seems to work for them.
That said, no one in their right mind is buying Rice as a representation of Houston urban culture.

My thoughts exactly, we were driving to my daughters’ in Columbus, Ohio (she is doing education stuff at Ohio State). Saw similar rims in Kentucky, near Bowling Green–I immediately thought of Rice.

Haha. The wife and I went to Einstein’s Bagels on Kirby and Bissonnet a few weeks back. She asked the dorks in front of us if they were Rice students. “Yeah, HOW DID YOU KNOW?!?”
