I don’t understand what you mean by this. You don’t think a state has
a right to release accident records if public request is made ?
Just the opposite. Only in CA would a ruling prevent it.
There is a similar filing in Washington by Tesla. Let’s see how this one plays.
Sounds like they are using the same tactic as Waymo did.
The courts appear to be taking the side of the company vs the public. Does that
align with pro-business or pro-public.
June 4 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab has asked a judge to reject a demand for some of its vehicle crash data held by the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, saying that public disclosure of the information could cause competitive harm.
Tesla, the electric carmaker owned by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, said in a federal court filing, opens new tabin Washington, D.C., on Tuesday that the requested information is confidential and could be used by rival companies to assess Tesla’s technology.
Musk’s Tesla seeks to guard crash data from public disclosure | Reuters.
Looks like competitive privacy vrs public right to know safety concerns. Maybe collective number of crashes for all self driving vehicles and the percentage of all crashes.
That’s a good concise summary of what is in play here.
The summary data should be available to the public, and would
not reveal any competitive advantage stuff. How is revealing number of tickets, fender benders, air bag deployments, injury, or serious injury/death a competitive advantage thing ?
If it doesn’t specify manufacturer it shouldn’t.
How many crashes have Teslas Robotaxis have? For sure if they did, every media outlet would be reporting it.
Why shouldn’t they?
The same reason they dont report Waymo incidents.
For example, no one commented on another SpaceX test today, but I’m sure if something bad happened you’d have gotten it on your feed.
Disagree , don’t see why specifying by model should an issue either. Safety Recalls initiated by NHSTA after investigations always list make and models.
Hard pressed to see why AVs should get a pass on the accident and crash data.
Why exactly do you think plane crashes are extensively reported but the
thousands of successful takeoff and landings don’t get a peep from the biased
media ?
Some hackers took over Waymo to cause a jam.
Interesting experiment. Could probably induce a similar traffic jam by
having a prankster arrange to have 50 cabs with drivers called to a dead end street as well. Can’t wait for the day when we have AV Wreckers with humanoid
robots to do the job.
But useful experiment to see how AV’s would handle high density events (games, concerts, etc )
I don’t know if you’d get that with 50 cabs with drivers unless their dispatch was totally automated. Even still… I think the human element in play with regular cabs might not make it as effective.
Though maybe it will be like in Animal House when the band follows the band leader mace down the dead end alley.
Oh no, the infallible Waymo is under investigation. How can this be? Only Robotaxi can do wrong. I guess some will just call it a glitch or just say, deal with it, whereas if Tesla did it, its systemic failure to the core.

Waymo Self-Driving Taxis Under Investigation for Driving Around a School Bus
The NHTSA is investigating reports that a driverless Waymo taxi may have failed to follow traffic laws around a stopped school bus.
Did you not see this addressed in this thread 10 days ago ?
And yes, as stated above, it’s a big deal.
Once more…
Oh I’m sorry, I don’t read any of your links, just like you don’t mine.
If you can keep from getting overly dramatic
and see what we all see( hint musk is not god) , it’s possible to have
good conversations about the state of AI and
totally autonomous driving problems. It’s a real problem.
And I read all links on posts I respond to.
