Roughnecks and Gamblers merge as Roughnecks; USFL and XFL merge into UFL

Houston Roughnecks survive XFL merger with USFL, creating the United Football League - ABC13 Houston.

Sure hope we can keep the Roughnecks at TDECU.

Thank the Lord. I like the Roughnecks theme and helmet.

Uh, there is a big construction crane on the field helping to construct the football operations building.

Can we get a professional board and move this?

Only cougar football on this board; with talk only about current Coogs that have played or enrolled. Nothing else!

I think they are playing at Rice stadium

I should say I love every variation of the Roughnecks theme.

I liked the Roughnecks from the word “go” in 2020 and never even watched a second of the Gamblers (mainly because I didn’t know when they were on or what channel). I even bought some Roughnecks apparel today with the original 2020 logo on it (the No Fun League made them change it as well as the secondary logo because they “claimed” it was too close to the Oilers and even Patriots logos [are you bleeping kidding me?] respectively) because I LOVE that logo.

And between the stuff in parenthesis and the UH Luv Ya Blue Cease and Desist order, the NFL is on my real $hit list right now, though I still love me some Texans.

Unfortunately this is the Roughnecks in name only. This team should’ve held on to Wade who moved on to San Antonio. The former Gambler staff, now Roughnecks won’t cut it.

I kept up with both the Roughnecks and the Gamblers last year and actually the Gamblers team and staff are pretty good.

I wasn’t really impressed with Wade Phillips last year. The Roughneck defense was mediocre and both quarterbacks were average at best.

I look forward to rooting on the Gambler rebranded Roughnecks going foward.

I liked the first pre-COVID Roughnecks who were 5-0 playing at TDECU before the pandemic cancelled the season.

Yes, the 2020 Roughnecks coached by June Jones was a different story.

Jones’s offense was very productive and they had a solid defense. I believe they could have won the whole league that year, if it wasn’t for covid.

June Jones is Coaching?

If these league had any marketing sense they would have kept the Gamblers in Houston with Wade as HC and Mr. John Jenkins.as O.C.

Should’ve kept Gamblers… Agreed.

I’m partial to gamblers as well, but just because I was a big USFL fan as a kid. Roughnecks do have the undefeated season, so I’ll allow it.

It’d be cool if the new Roughnecks wore Gamblers throwbacks on occasion.

In these leagues the staffs are going to have frequent turnover. The first version of the Roughnecks was awesome using the RUN Shoot and PJ at qb. As much as I like Wade the team was often hamstrung with him as HC.

The Gamblers were irrelevant since they didn’t play a single game in Houston and hired Sumlin as their first HC.

As long as they play at rice stadium I will watch on tv but will not be attending any games.

If they move back to UH I will make some games.

I hope the League does well. I enjoyed watching both. I think the XFL 2020 would of made if not for Covid crip.

“USFL Markets in Michigan, Houston, Birmingham, and Memphis are all being relocated for the 2026 season.”

Makes sense. Nobody went to the games, when I went to one, there werent even 1000 people there. It was boring as far as atmosphere goes
