Russian Three Star General CAPTURED in Ukraine

That is what makes America great. Free speech and free exchange of ideas.

I don’t think anyone here anticipates sending troops to fight in Ukraine…but we’ll damn sure arm, equip, supply, and train their forces to help them resist aggression.

As for China…trust me…we will NOT allow China to invade Taiwan. If that means mixing it up with the PRC…then trust me…we will NOT be ā€œisolationistā€ in that instance, any more than we were in South Korea in 1950.

Korean was the under the auspices of the U N. And classified as a police action by the U.N. to stop northern Korean aggression. Until McArthur (Truman rightly fired him, Truman said he wasn’t about to start WW III) wanted to nuke China and possibly bring a nuclear armed USSR into the conflict because The Soviet’s was China Communist ally.

Yeah?

So?

It’s still NOT isolationist.

We would NOT be isolationists if China invaded Taiwan.

Hopefully your theory will never be tested…

Let’s hope not.

In the event of a crisis, for example, a move towards formal sovereignty by Taiwan, China would blockade the island. The island imports all of its energy, mainly natural gas, and has about three weeks of storage capacity. China need only inform shipping companies of its intent to sink any LNG tanker approaching the island and the lights would go out in Taiwan in less than a month.

No expeditionary force 6,000 miles from home can match the land-based firepower of a nearby peer adversary only 100 miles away. Our naval fleet would be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of missiles and drones China could throw at them. The US would likely need boots on the ground and China would count on US sentiment that they do not want their kids to die and accept letting China have Taiwan.

We lose every time… Their bigger, faster stronger and possibly smarter

Bigger…sure.

Faster and stronger? Based on what?

Possibly smarter…not seeing it.

Our military budget is several times that of China’s.

War with China would be a formidable task to be sure.

But you’d be a fool to think that we are just going to sit there and allow China to invade Taiwan.

Take PPP into account our military budget is not especially when the Chinese are not as transparent in their military expenditures, as we are

China also depends on oil exports. And our naval power and ability to interdict oil shipments to China is far greater than Chinese naval power.

Who says China is a ā€œpeer adversary?ā€ Our Navy is FAR more powerful than theirs. They aren’t close to being a peer adversary in terms of either Naval or Air power.

And you need a lot of both to be able to invade Taiwan.

China’s navy is larger in terms of total vessels, but far weaker in terms of number of nuclear powered submarines, aircraft carriers, naval aircraft, etc.

We also greatly outweigh them in tonnage.

See here.

Our aircraft carrier tonnage alone is about EIGHT TIMES theirs.

As of 2024, China has the world’s largest navy with 788 surface and sub. Combatants, with 3 aircraft carriers 4 and 5th being built or planned 350,000 active personnel, U.S. has more tonnage. Also this does not include their Coast Guard ships as well as there civilan navy.

The PLAN has a goal of having six carriers in service by the mid-2030s, and Beijing is expected to soon reveal plans for its fourth aircraft carrier. Speculation abounds that the next carrier could be nuclear-powered, indicating that China will continue to improve its naval capabilities.Aug 16, 2024

US: 811.6B
China: 298B

Not only do they have fewer aircraft carriers, but they are also FAR SMALLER and less advanced.

At least two of those three Chinese carriers are old ā€œski jumpā€ style aircraft carriers.

Much lower tech.

US carriers can hold 80+ aircraft, including over 100 F-18 Hornets.

Chinese carriers…none can hold more than 50 or so.

Not close.

As I said, our carrier tonnage is about EIGHT TIMES that of China’s.

That would still be WELL BELOW that of the United States.

The latest addition the Fujan , to their fleet is quite comparable to our Aircraft Carriers except the Ford Class

Actually, it isn’t.

The Fujan can only hold about 50 or so aircraft.

As I said, ANY US carrier can carry 80 or more…including 100 or more F-18s.

And we have ELEVEN of those.

Also you have to understand the Chinese Navy strategy to use those Aircraft Carriers is not like our strategy. There going use them to deny our forces access, the Carrier killer missiles they have they designed for keeing our carriers far and away. Then there aircraft will have free reign over the first and 2nd island chains

They do have carrier killer missiles.

But don’t but on their carriers themselves coming close to dominating ours.

There’s a pretty big disparity there.

I suspect that we can develop defenses to their missiles.

The gap in submarines is also pretty big.

Our submarine tonnage is about 2.5 times that of China…and the submarines that they have are nowhere near as advanced.
