I’m worried about this being shut down as too political, but I’ve noticed that the American Far Right has a really strange infatuation for Putin, as does you know who.
I’ll never understand it, but it’s out there.

Because they see how much more an authoritarian can get done
How much more of what, specifically?
Aggressing his neighbors?
Stamping out opposition?
Violating human rights?
You starting a checklist?
Just asking.
I mean, I don’t know what they think Putin can “get done,” to use your words, other than stuff like that.
Those pesky constitutional checks and balances keep getting in the way.
Zelensky posted this statement.
Facts are stubborn things. Since the beginning of this year, the Russian army has carried out attacks against Ukraine using nearly 27,700 aerial bombs, almost 11,200 Shahed drones, around 9,000 other types of attack UAVs, and more than 700 missiles, including ballistic ones. And that’s in less than half a year.
This is the pace of Russian strikes, and they deliberately set this tempo from the very first days of the full-scale war. Russia has restructured its entire state, society, and economy to be able to kill people in other countries on a massive scale and with impunity.
Many have spoken with Russia at various levels. But none of these talks have brought a reliable peace, or even stopped the war. Unfortunately, Putin feels impunity. Even after all of Russia’s horrific attacks, he is reportedly preparing yet more so-called “responses.”
It means, that with every new strike, with every delay of diplomacy, Russia is giving the finger to the entire world — to all those who still hesitate to increase pressure on it. Yet, it is Russia that should be seeking peace. It is in Moscow that they must begin to feel that war carries a cost, a high cost, and the highest one should be paid by the aggressor.
If the world reacts weakly to Putin’s threats, he interprets it as a readiness to turn a blind eye to his actions. When he does not feel strength and pressure, but instead senses weakness, he always commits new crimes. He sees such an attitude as silent permission: permission for new atrocities, new strikes, new killings.
That is why we in Ukraine are so grateful to everyone in the world who is trying to stop this war and stop Russia’s attacks. To everyone who tells the killer that he will be held accountable. To everyone who says Russian missiles and bombs must stop taking innocent lives.
Russia must bring back peace.
And today, on the Day of Remembrance of Ukrainian Children Killed by Russian Aggression, we remind the powerful of this world of the facts. If the powerful do not stop Putin, it means they share responsibility with him. And if they want to stop him but cannot, then Putin will no longer see them as powerful.
Fair point. I’m not sure what it is. Maybe something close to what CougarDue suggests. I suppose there’s an authoritarian streak in both the far right and the far left.
Disturbing!
That’s from 2018. All still pertinent, but in term one.
And the Acceptance and support of this by China is equally disturbing. Not that I’d expect much difference from that party and leadership to actually care about people, but the rest of the world that cares should be pressuring china too in some way. China has become so powerful economically, not sure how to counteract them anymore.
Cut off their oil. That’s the only reason they’re in bed with Russia and Iran.
Probably easier to isolate Iranian oil with blockades. A russian or chinese tanker
blockade could get out of control real easy when you put commanders in the position of deciding a very large escalation. Not sure any leaders wants to delegate that much decision making power.
I also see that china and russia have a 2,600 mile border. Would
it even be possible to isolate them if they were intent on building more pipelines ?

So I don’t have an answer. Maybe if RoW imposed stiff tariffs on chinese goods it
would have an effect…but that has big internal economic impact to countries that go that route.
While working in Big Sky country, Montana, i worked with some white nationalists. Interesting bunch and they would tell me that Russians were the last great white race. Interesting ideology.
The Russians are the worst of the “whites”. Never, ever can trust them for some reason. Vodka?
Long read but worth it…some highlights of his POV…
Russian army, just like in the Soviet one, it is unacceptable for a soldier to be idle even for a minute. Commanders always find them pointless tasks, believing that it boosts discipline and exhausts the soldiers so they don’t have the energy for harmful actions or protests.
In Russia, it’s common to see soldiers painting grass green, draining puddles with shovels, and so on. Tires on airplanes are a perfect way to keep conscript soldiers busy on base. The tires need to be gathered, stored, then mounted on the wings—hours of work. And then the officers can proudly report that counter-drone measures are in place. Russia’s nuclear forces are in the same state as the rest of its army—which is now fighting on donkeys. The most recent test launch of the Sarmat missile at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome ended in an explosion of the launch silo. It’s worth noting that previously, Russia’s ballistic missile production was based… in Ukraine, at the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau.
Moreover, the strike has again caused many Russians to lose faith in their leadership. This is evident from the outcry in Russian social media. The so-called “Z-patriots” are demanding an immediate and crushing response. But again—there’s nothing to respond with. There is no superweapon based on alien space technology. There is only Soviet junk, repainted in new colors.
Hearing we may impose sanctions on Ukraine as a result of Operation Spider Web.
I just saw that story
