That just shows again that hiring the wrong coach can really set a program back a couple of years.
Barrick was a great talent!
I just want to say that itâs a great sign that Jordan didnât want to throw his previous team under the bus in an effort to play immediately. Great testament to his character!
That was the reason people gave for hiring Applewhite over Orlando ââ Applewhite has in-state high school connections to bring in recruits that Orlando was supposedly lacking. Well, we found out just what those high school kids actually thought of Applewhite!
The fact that Rhule kept on stealing Applewhiteâs recruits away to Baylor tells us just how important those âconnectionsâ Applewhite had was since Rhule had even less connections to Texas than Orlando! We wonât know how Olando would have done here as a head coach, but I donât think he would have done anything as bad as Applewhite!
I think if we are going to hire a first-time head coach, make sure he is the best or one of the best offensive or defensive coordinators in the country. Iâve never viewed Applewhite as nothing more than an average offensive coordinator, at best. But I have always viewed Orlando as one of the best defensive coordinators in all of college football! He had my respect after his first year here.
I never felt Applewhite is in the same level as Orlando in his offensive coordinator role as Orlando is in his defensive coordinator role. In their desire to hire for continuity, the admins simply hired the wrong first-time head coach!
Orlando is still with Tom, makes me wonder if he really wants to be head coach. Maybe that is why he didnât interview well for the position here.
He interviewed at Temple this last year. 1) itâs hard to get a head job when youâre a DC because most fanbases want offense. 2) Iâve heard heâs terrible in interviews and doesnât come off as someone who has a plan. 3) His defense kind of sucked this last season and UT fans werenât happy with him for a large portion of it.
I guess some people are better talkers than doers while others are better doers than talkers.
Apple Boy was neither !!
Was their defense that bad? They were in the Maryland game for sure but I thought they looked pretty solid (not elite of course) when I watched them.
Anyways this is huge for our defense! Season will be here sooner then we know!!
Defense struggled badly in the two OU games, the Okie State game, Texas Tech game, West Virginia game, Maryland game, and TCU game. Tulsa also put up a surprising amount of yards on them.
I donât think they were bad, but they were very inconsistent. Orlando ended up calming his detractors after the bowl game, but he was in thin ice most of the year.
That fanbase will never have patience! Lol
Dana has taken our secondary from a major concern to a strength of the defense.
Well done coach.
Folks, ainât it time to allow the Apple to fall from the tree?
Alright letâs go! Whoâs up first? Oh, OU.
But that happened against ArmyâŠNo more Apple falling under Dana coaching!
And the main coach who drafted the letter (Joey McGuire of Cedar Hill) was hired by Baylor as an assistant with a month of that stupid letter and probably got some of the recruits you mentioned.
They signed an incredibly highly rated group of defensive backs and had to play a good percentage of them last year.
In a nutshell thatâs why CDH and his staff have gone after Jucos and transfers so hard. Its not as if Jucos are a sure thing, but freshman are such a crap shoot early on at this level. The ceiling is certainly lower for jucos, but the floor is way higher as well for a lot of those guys.
I donât disagree with you about JUCO talent but it sounds like we got the best of what was available. The challenge for CDH will be back filling and raising his own secondary while the JUCOâs take the field this year and next.
Yeah, it can be a bad cycle with jucos.
We brought in 2 frosh DBs this year (including Moore) and hopefully we sign several in the 2020 class so when these Jucos cycle out ideally you have a core of guys who have been in the program and youâre not constantly in a 2 year cycle.
edit- And also to credit the current staff theyâve also seemed to try and go after JC/transfer guys with >2 years of eligibility. When its all said and done Moore, Hypolite, G Owens will be here longer than the average transfer.

3. Jordan Moore - Houston
Get yourself a program to keep up with Houston this year. The Coogs were very active in the transfer market; they added 6-7 defensive backs alone. Jordan Moore signed with Texas A&M out of Yoakum high school in 2018. He played four games for the Aggies, mostly on special teams then left the program to pursue a transfer. Most folks assumed Jordan would reconnect with his twin brother Josh at the University of Texas, but instead heads to Third Ward. The Cougars need help in the secondary after graduating three of their top corners and a safety Garrett Davis. The NCAA granted Mooreâs waiver request in June so heâll be cocked, locked, and ready to rock.
