Australian Rules Football and the 6’11" Texan
What’s amazing when he stands in line with teammates, he doesn’t look so tall.

Those are some big boys that play Aussie FB.
As a Mexican-American I have always been impressed with Australians toughness….I remember back when ESPN was in the earlier stages and did not have a lot of content they would show Australian Rules Football.
The little guy in the lab
coat that came out and did the bang bang to show a kick was good was cool
Those were some tough SOB’s, especially to a 10-12 year old kid….I remember asking my mom if they had a kids league….she actually called around.
As an Estonian-American, I was impressed with their toughness too. However, I’m glad ESPN has more content now.
I believe the term is white … lol
I don’t watch Australian rules football, but I believe they don’t wear pads …
Actually, it’s Estonian/Romanian/Russian-American. Bleached white. ![]()
Nope, no pads. Those are some bad dudes. I dated a girl from Australia many years ago. She thought NFL players were soft for wearing pads.

Was she hot?

As an Italian-American, i loved staying up late as a kid watching Aussie Rules football on espn, they still show it occasionally
Me: Czech-Irish = Checkerish
Wife: Mexican-Irish = Leprechauna.
But what are your thoughts on Australian rules football and did you watch it on ESPN back in the day?
Mexican-Irish , like Zorba the Greek ( Anthony Quinn)
I get that you guys are making fun because I said Mexican-American….that’s cool, no worries.
My point when I said it which I did a horrible job of making mostly because I hit reply in a hurry….I grew up watching boxing almost every weekend and going to live frights at the Astro Arena as a kid with my grandfather….to me the Mexican fighters were warriors, never quit even if they were not the best athletically….I also wrestled all through high school and got into kickboxing in my early 30’s and BJJ about ten years later……I like combat, competition, etc. I really like the Aussie rules because I respect how tough they were….Rugby players are tough guys too….just didn’t find it as entertaining.
So my background and what I was exposed to early on made me appreciate the sport and the players
As an Interdimensional-Extraterrestrial Non-Human Intelligence from the Zeta Reticuli galaxy I have to say…6’11" is pretty damn tall.
Footy is an awesome sport and in my opinion dramatically superior to American football. It’s shown on FS1 or FS2 in the middle of the night on weekends here in the States. If one is a fan of physical contact that values both foot and hand eye coordination just put a game on and it’s almost hypnotic in its rhythm and beauty and sheer physicality. God bless Australia.
My favorite teams are the Geelong Cats and the Fremantle Dockers.
Don’t know why, I just like ‘em.
As a German/Swedish/Irish American I don’t really think about aussie rules much. Not sure what part my ancestry played in this, most likely none and it baffles me as to what bearing someone’s ancestry would have on any part of the subject of aussie rules.
I guess I started it. Yes, I was just playing around. I hope you took it as such.
I was never a huge fight fan (boxing, MMA, etc.), however, I never missed a Tyson fight…unless I blinked.
No worries……I can tell who is doing it in fun and who is being a jerk….
I was always a big boxing fan growing up….I begged to get into Golden Gloves but was told I was too busy and could not fit it in unless I dropped something else….
IMO there are only a few weight divisions that are even entertaining anymore in boxing.
Love MMA and wish it had been around 30 years earlier….Great UFC card this weekend.
In a general Jungian understanding, sport, just like art, literature, music and architecture can be expressive of unique archetypes of a particular people(s) and what may lead individuals to be more attracted to a certain style of same born in or reflected in the ways of their forbears.
I wonder if CTE is prevalent in that sport.
