Scary movies list

I like a good scare during Halloween season and have 4 in mind that were decent. I know it’s extremely hard to make a good scary movie. I was wondering which movies you guys considered scary if you like those movies and what you recommend.

Witch
Hereditary
The ritual

It is interesting what is defined as scary.

Would you put movies like Hostel or Saw as scary? I would not, thou they contain jump scares those are more like torture porn.

The Birds
Scream
Friday the 13th
Haloween
Excorcist
The Descent.

I liked Witch and Hereditary. Haven’t seen the others. A movie that genuinely shook me is Jacob’s Ladder. Can’t really think of any others besides what scared me as a kid.

Yeah, Descent was good. I saw The Exorcist when I was 14 and would check behind me when I was alone for a month or so. I don’t think I would find it that scary today.

I don’t consider saw and hostel scary because of that same reason. But if the blood adds to the effect like in Carrie then i consider it a scary movie.

My brother and I saw the exorcist in middle school on a night my parents went out. They came home and found every light, i mean every light on in the house when they fot home…lol we were freaked out, being catholic just added to it. To this day he and i laugh about it.

@CMCoog17 the original Carrie or the new one?

The original one. There’s something about how it looks or feels from the beginning that’s off and that’s a good thing in a scary movie.

Same. As well, going to catholic school at the time, rumor at school was that it was based on a real story made it even scarier. So you know, grade school embelishment.

Catholic grade school urban legends are scary stuff…lol

Jaws was really scary as a kid as were the flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz.

I’ll add,

Amityville Horror. Same as the first verse. Grade school talk of it really happening.

Lol…it would be niche but a catholic grade school.urban legend thread would be something…lol

Lol

Rosemarys Baby
Psycho
Get Out

The Silence of the Lambs cured me of watching frightening movies.

No more…thank you very much.

“A census taker once tried to test me…”

From the 50s? Or the one with Kurt Russell?

Alien qualify as a scary movie?

Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. LOL!

Then if you are Catholic and Hispanic, you have La Llorona.

Not a scary movie, but Poltergeist has given a lot of cultural references to us.

They’re heeeere.
Walk to the light my Children
Built on an Indian burial ground.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Which was a disappointment considering how good The Shining was……
