I do not see any B12 school foregoing any existing revenue for FSU or Clemson. However, the CFP distribution in the new playoff model is higher for the ACC over the B12 due to FSU and Clemson success. If the incremental distribution difference shifted to the B12, I could see the B12 giving this difference for the first few years (until look in) to FSU/Clemson to offset legal and ACC exit fees. Play the long game. That’s around $25M to each school for the period.
Any Coog that supports the nc state fudgpackers in anything, should just turn their badge in. If it’s possible:
Florida St
Clemson
Miami
Notre Dame???
(If not then Virginia Tech)
We offer them a "signing bonus " type of deal and they can use that money as they see fit but we do not offer them uneven revenue sharing.
Sorry but swapping UT & OU for FSU & Clemson is not an upgrade.
UT & OU are a level above them and we shouldn’t treat them like they are as valuable as those two.
They are considering the Big 12 because the P2 has already told them this and so, it is either stay in the ACC (where they’ve burned bridges) or jump to the Big 12 hoping they can fleece a sucker.
Signing bonus?? FORGET it!!! They can come just like we did, just like Arizona and the PAC schools did, or they they can stay where they are and cry about it…no favors…They need us more than we need them…Those idiots at FSU crossed the Rubicon! You cant do and say what they have have, and expect to go back. They should be happy we want them, to keep winning “the long game” for Yormark. Both FSU and clemmie will get a big boost, money wise, in joining Big 12, in years to come, and all of us will benefit.
Generally I like your insights but disagree on this. In my scenario it’s three years of net nothing (i.e. FSU/Clemson retain the value add given to the ACC for CFP as agreed by all conferences, B12 keeps what they agreed to; it’s formula based on previous CFP performance by conference) then forego this value sharing after the look in period. So on the backend of the period the existing schools get a bump in revenue for the duration of the existing CFP agreement. B12 is also better positioned for the next media deal.
This cost the existing members zero with nothing but upside potential.
As a UH fan, FSU and Clemson is an upgrade. Not having to deal with ut and their crap is an upgrade.
I’ll take FSU, Clemson, Miami, and Louisville please.
Here’s the thing…
Almost every conference’s media deals expire around the same time. 2030-31ish.
Per media days, everything Yormark is doing right now is to plan for 2030.
If the Big 12 is confident their media deal will be almost if not just as valuable as the SEC/B1G come 2030… then why add anyone more than FSU & Clemson?
Why not stop at 18, and possibly wait to see if the Texas A&Ms and Nebraskas of the world want to join the Big 12 in the next wave of media deals?
This would certainly explain the whole Private Equity thing the Big 12 is kicking around
Florida State and Clemson are two of the three most valuable schools not already in the Big 10 or SEC. Adding them would cement the Big 12 as the undisputed #3 conference and gives them too much clout to be ignored in all but the most seismic of realignment scenarios.
If you have a true opportunity to go get them, I do whatever it takes even it it does mean throwing some money at them because it will pay for itself in a matter of years easily.
I think I see Yormark’s vision.
He will add FSU & Clemson with Private Equity to pay their exit fees, and the other half of the PE goes to all member institutions including FSU & Clemson.
Yormark will pass on Miami, Virginia Tech, NC State, and Louisville.
Here’s why…
If Yormark can renegotiate the media deal to match or get close to the SEC/B1G’s media deal in 2030-31, then what’s stopping an unhappy Texas A&M or a non-AAU Nebraska from joining the Big 12? It’s an easier schedule, and money will no longer be an issue.
That’s what Yormark is doing. There’s literally no reason to add anyone from the ACC other than FSU & Clemson.
Aggies have about convinced themselves that they’ll be in the Big 10 very soon.
What for?
If money is not an issue, then they’ll have a much easier schedule and better travel partners in the Big 12.
College Station → Houston, Fort Worth, Lubbock, Waco, Stillwater, etc…
Instead of all the Northeast, LA, Eugene, Seattle
Yes but from a network brand value standpoint UT & OU are more valuable brands than FSU & Clemson
It matters not. Ut would be toxic to deal with as a conference mate. They would look down on our school and probably do the same crap they did back in the SWC. Not having them in the same conference is more valuable.
I agree…the ONLY ACC brands with value greater than what is already in the Big 12 include:
Florida State
Clemson
North Carolina
Notre Dame
Virginia (questionable)
The rest add no additional value and are just another mouth to feed.
Also…i think Notre Dame is more of a possibility than people want to admit IF they decide they are safer IN a conference.
And yet we are all happy to add a school that is literally currently "suing it’s own conference " and dragging their, and ESPN’s name in the mud while doing so.
We need to be careful how we do this
