Yikes. Hope we’re not recruiting this kid anymore if this is true.
He didn’t steal them, he snatched them
He will lose most, if not all, of his offers.
Hope it starts with Houston…
Not justifying it, but trying to rationalize it…
Someone needs to sit this young man down and figure out what motivated him.
Is his Family starving?
Was he just the result of having no good role models?
As sad as this sounds, I wonder if people will ruin his life or if he’ll get an opportunity to redeem himself somewhere.
It starts with remorse (not a token apology)… then penance… then good mentorship and hard work…I’d hate to see it ruin his life, over a pair of cleats.
But he does need to pay the “appropriate”
penalty.
He doesn’t need to face the guilotene…
We had the same problem with a basketball recruit several years back. The kid did sign with another school
Wouldn’t it be cool if he walked back in, handed the stuff back, and apologized?
That would be the start of a potentially “good” story…
Maybe the star receiver becomes his mentor?
I’ll bet he doesn’t have one…
It would have been better if he did so without being exposed. After being caught, giving stolen goods back is not very sympathetic.
Regardless, it sets off all kinds of alarms when considering whether or not a kid is a culture fit. Why chance it when there are other talented players that would be better fits.
Agreed.
Being sorry after you get caught isn’t a good look, but…
It doesn’t mean you’re not sorry.
People do stupid stuff.
He doesn’t deserve to have his future destroyed over it, but he should, and will pay a price.
I just don’t want to be part of the bunch that calls for his head.
He needs the right guy to step in, and he needs to take it as a wake-up call.
He’s prolly a Memphis lean now
This young man has had adequate time to address this accusation.
If he has failed to do that, while continuing to post all over his Instagram, and have his Family say what a fine, young, Christian man he is….
Then shame on both him, and his Family.
…I just pray his offer to play at Houston is OFF the table…
Mike,
This kind of bad choice will probably follow this young man for a long time and take its toll on his opportunities. I hate to see this kind of thing happen .
It is sad.
I was hoping he would fess up, apologize, and make amends.
Who cares about the cleats and the other gear.
Now I begin to question his “parents” too…
The good news is, I no longer see Brawley Tuitupou on Houston’s 2027 offer list.
I’ll bet he loses most of his offers.
It’ll be more interesting to see who “doesn’t” withdraw their offer than who “does”….
If he show’s no remorse, I could see him getting blackballed.
There are plenty of coaches who give 2nd chances…
…but what kind of coach offers an opportunity out to a young man who doesn’t even show remorse?
His “3-stars” won’t merit the risk a coach would take for all the blowback they would receive for bringing him in.
Sad day for everyone involved.
Brags about all the offers, but….
If you look at this list, every offer is now listed as “cool”….

Where’s the High School Coach in all this?
If he were playing his Senior season for me this Fall, he would have some Splainin’ to do before he ever saw the field…I would make him return everything, apologize (face to face), and do 100 hours of meaningful community service.
Without making amends, he makes whoever he plays for look BAD !
He says he bought the gear and didn’t know it was stolen, claiming he has receipts. If so, he needs to reveal the seller.
Well, this is a first step…
I hope he is honestly not involved in any wrongdoing.
My only questions are….
How did he obtain them shortly after his visit to USC?
It’s obvious they came from a USC Player…. why would he not question their origin?
Why would he even want them?
I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but there are still too many unanswered questions.
This post does NOT clear it up.
And if he purchased what is now, apparently, stolen property, has there been a Police Report filed, or is he covering up for someone?
Because not wanting to be a “Rat” would still make him culpable and impinge on his character.
I don’t think his statement will put this to rest, like he may be hoping. It’s incomplete and just raises more questions.
It’s also a little difficult to buy off on…
He said he’s working to resolve the issue. Whatever that “resolution” is needs to be shared with the public, or his character will remain in question…
He wraps up his statement, which was noticeably ambiguous, with…. “I’m trying to better myself both on and off the field”.
There’s a solid note of guilt in saying that. It does not bring the matter to a close. If anything it makes it appear he’s just digging the hole deeper.
I think k he’s in damage control mode, which could end up making the matter even worse than if he just shared ALL the facts.
Like it or not, he is a pseudo public figure. which carries with it a burden of responsibility to the public.
Right now, I don’t think most of the public will be satisfied with his shotgun “I would never do something like that, I have more respect than that, and my faith wouldn’t allow it”.
Not because of what he said, but because of what he knows, and ISN’T saying…
Faith should not be used as camouflage. Faith should cause you to choose the hard right over the easy wrong.
There is something fishy, the guy is from Utah so they would have had to fly him in and leave him unattended in the locker room and then not notice when he walks out with 3 pairs of cleats, 8 pairs of gloves 7 towels, a jacket and pair of shorts… it makes me think they let him take the stuff.
That doesn’t mean the school is cool on him, it means he is cool on the schools. One day it will get down to a precious few that he is deciding on and then they will show warm. That is, unless the offers dry up due to his alleged theft.
But you never know; we once took a transfer who shot someone.
He didn’t say this. It was clearly written for him by an attorney.
