Several mistakes were made and we still won by double digits

We will see a lot of things worked on in the Southern game.

Very good feeling about this team

Agree with you ScrewstonCoog on your title to your post (penalties, muffed XPT, dropped interception, holding on 2PT conversion, tipped interception, etc.) We were at the game and it seemed our pass defense gave up some very easy, wide open, receptions and the yards after catch (170+) yuk! Have to agree we held them to 20 points, and our defense stuffed their run. DL looks to be in great shape. Our offense looked very good for first game and the OL looked impressive, All in all, first game success, but CWF needs to get after or defensive coordinator and secondary coach to clean up the wide open receptions and YAC allowed by our defensive secondary. Great call by our defensive coordinator for the all-out bltze on their last gasp 4th down resulting the sack.

A win, is a win, is a win!

Excited to see how we look next week. We had a few blown assignments in the secondary, and expect that to change. Overall, we look pretty good this year. Offensive Line looks solid. RBs are excellent. CW made some big plays. We have all the things good teams have.

The only excuse for the poor pass defense is that we had no film of their team.

Still doesn’t excuse that blown coverage on the long pass in the first quarter…

That was just a blown assignment plain & simple.

I have no way of knowing who was supposed to be covering him !!’

Javion White was lined up in coverage & released off of the receiver that made the play as he went up the sideline and ended up double covering the route underneath so I’m thinking it was blown coverage by White…

I rewatched that play. There were 5 receivers to that side, including the tight end and running back. The 4 on the LOS crossed , 3 of them running short routs. 4 DB’s stayed tight for the two that stayed really short and one stayed with the crosser going to the middle. That accounted for 5 DBs. The only help could have/should have come from the LB position, but I’m sure he was busy. I’ll watch it again later and clarify, since my memory is terrible and our AT&T Air internet service is sh*t on a stick . . . . .

New Coach and new QB. Hard to plan with that and no two deep was released either.

Their QB was pretty good too. Was POTY as a Freshman last year and moved up a level this year. There’s a chance they just aren’t as bad as Vegas predicted.

We had a whole half & didn’t adjust zone coverage. Plus their QB had too much time to throw.

GO COOGS

Their receivers found the soft spots I. Our zone coverage all night long
We were trying not to give up the big play but in doing so we let them dunk and dunk down the field too easily
If we do that vs tech we will be toast
