Shipley Do-Nuts sold to PE

Right? I never understood the hate on donuts defense? Students loved it even during herman years. Disclaimer, i was class of 2015

Always thought the donut was a great reference to our defense putting up zeros on the board

Last year we had the donut offense.

You guys have never gone to the original kolache shoppe on telephone?

The best kolaches come from mom ‘n pop shops.

I don’t even remember it… random memory hole I guess.

If you call those kolaches when you order, they’ll be laughing at you inside. :slightly_smiling_face:

How could they be laughing inside the kolaches?

Ah, but they aren’t kolaches.

Yep, they’re Pigs in a Blanket, Kolaches out there are more of fruit danishes, but the topic was Shipley’s kolaches, I kept it the same for the city folks here.

Klobasnek, but only people who have spent time in Czech Texas have even heard that term.

I don’t eat sweets but when I did, go to the one on Ella and you can’t go wrong.

This discussion has forced me to grab some donut holes and chocolate milk.

The donut holes there are the best deal anywhere. Order a dozen and you get 2 - 3 dozen in the bag. Great owner and crew there as well. Have all been around forever.

You know this is accurate, my best friend in junior high was bonafide Czech, and explained the originally kolache was a dessert with fruit

My Czech heritage was confused when I first started seeing kolaches become widespread in the late 80s. To me a kolache was the square, fruit filled danish my mom made. My favorites were poppyseed or cheese.

That being said, i do enjoy klobasneks whenever I visit Texas. They don’t seem to make them on the West Coast.

They’re so good, especially if you find a place with great pan sausage or sauerkraut.

Some of my favorites are:

Prasek’s
Hruska’s
Czech Stop
Slovacek’s
Kountry Bakery

Buc-Ees is OK, but not in the same class. Shipley’s - no.

Good stuff and worth a stop if on I10 run between Houston and the Alamo city. Like
their sausages and tamales too. HEB is now carrying some Prasek sausages.

Waaay southeast. Nowhere near my neighborhood, and I live near the south/east loop.

When my wife and I first moved back, we instituted a Kolache Thursday. Guess where we went?

NOW you’re talkin’! We always stop there on our way to Victoria on our family visits.
